Looking for a beginner's digital SLR. I have around £250 in my Paypal account that is burning a hole in my pocket.

Am interested in Canon's and Nikon's mainly. Perhaps a Sony if its a good deal.

Needs to be in good condition, ideally less than a year old.

Thanks!

might aswell get a new sony a200 if you are looking to spend £250

Have you tried the Canon Outlet on Fleabay, these are all genuine Refurbs and come with a warranty. If you patient you can pick up a 400D EOS for around your budget.

Second hand lens choice is limited for Sonys

I've had a look around and i know there are differences of opinion but generally people think the canons and nikons to be better quality performers? Thought i'd try and see if i can get one of those for around this budget - thanks for the advice though :)

Would reiterate this.

I bought one of these about a month ago and love it !!! Nikon uses the sony sensors, so that in itself tells you something.

Thanks! Didn't know about this, i'll check it out...something like the 400D is definitely what i'd be looking for - you had any experience with Canons?

hi, where did you get yours from?

not looking to sell it then i guess

There's little between the Canon and Nikon cameras, I prefer Canon myself but there's no real reason why.

Amazon, if you buy before the end of the month there is also a cashback promotion on which refunds you £30

More information in these threads that you may like to look at.

sony

nikon

sony

It has went up a bit in price but still a very good buy in my opinion.

Nah not looking to sell - lol

I've got a sony A100, pretty similar to the A200, IMO I've used canon and nikon alternatives and I still prefer mine, especially for people that are starting out for the first time with a DSLR. Plus lots of old cheap konika/minolta lenses for learning :)

I think the main consideration is if you have any standard SLR lenses, a lot of the DSLR cameras are backwards compatible with their own brand.

Always used canon, worked my way through most of the range, toying with the idea of Buying the New 5D Mk2.

Not much in it with the Nikon and Canon decision, its mainly down to preference.

The sony is less of a learning curve in regards to setting out as a starter DSLR. I found the Canon and the Nikons to be generally built to a better standard. My old 350D (predesseor of the 400D) to be solid as a rock, never had a problem with it, the nice thing about the canon is the lens range... its massive and the 2nd hand market is saturated with really GOOD lenses. I picked up an 80-200mm (quiet a rare one of its model) off ebay for a freind the other month for £50 and its a stunning lens almost makes me question the £1400 price tag on my 70-200L IS lens lol.

A Sony A100K, with an 18-70 Sony lens? It's boxed (inc. book, software, etc.) with receipts; plus an extra battery and a 1GB CF card. Has had little usage, bought less than a year ago, so is in mint condition.

£225 delivered? (via RMSD)

Brass monkey - if OP doesn't want then I may be interested in your extra battery depending on how much you would want for it.

SLR? Odd.

Anyway, Nikon D40, bought in August, £170 plus postage - comes with the 18-55mm kit lens and in very good condition, fully boxed.
