Have you tried just putting the vodafone sim card into it?
All of my old o2 phones have been usable with vodafone sim cards.

no free solution available, however markets dont charge much now, £8 with my regular guy, alternatively this will do the job nicely (and can be used on other phones too) http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12167

It will work mate no worries, i recommend using a hole punch for doing the cut to your sim card, so long as their is space in the slot for the ismart it works, so any phone where you lift a flap to the sim is fine and most of the ones where you slide the sim into a slot.

So, that card must be attached with my sim card all the time?
Does it really unlocked the phone?

yes you need the card with your sim in the phone to keep it "unlocked". Technicaly i dont think its classed as unlocking as it simply fools the phone into believing the correct networks sim is in at boot-up, but yes it does work.

its also possible with some phones to apply power direct to the contacts instead of a battery and start the phone with the right networks sim in then once in swap sims quickly and place battery in before removing the power source, these are just a neater way of doing the same.
