Check out a seller called island-online on eBay. That's where I got mine. About £7 inc postage.

its got to be a pc with a VIA sata controller or a pci sata controller card that has a via chipset

you can get pcmcia sata cards on ebay with the via chipset. they say they are xbox compatable.either would be great if the pcmcia one works.thanks for the heads up.

out of curiosity what pattern were the front lights in?

initially it had the 2 red lights(left hand sise) now it has the bottom right single red light. it doesnt even make it to the main screen. i was hoping to get a card(or get someone else) and retrieve the drive key and either flash the original firmware put extreme on it. just hoping its not fubar as it was working. i have even tried a different sata cable but this made no difference.any help grately appreciated.

2 red lights means overheating. And firmware shouldn't just 'become' corrupt. So be careful if you're going to flash it, because the error numbers aren't always correct, and if it has been overheating that could have caused another problem that the 360 has misdiagnosed as a DVD drive problem (also E64 isn't necessarily a firmware problem - it's a problem with the DVD drive, but that could be a power or data problem, not necessarily firmware).

Also, what type of DVD drive do you have? Because you only need a PCI card for Samsung and BenQ drives. Hitachi drives should work with most chipsets of onboard SATA (in fact I've never been able to get my VIA PCI card to connect to a Hitachi drive, I use my motherboard SATA, which is an Intel chipset, to flash Hitachi drives).

the dvd drive is a samsund ts28. the error code is 1001. i have tried a different sata cable but that never worked. even if i turn it on with the dvd drive not connected then connect it whilst turned on it still gives the 1 light so confused. will there still be power from the xbox to the dvd (even though the red light is on) for flashing.

Dont wanna hijack this thread but.. i have been given a 360 that appears to boot ok and recognizes a controller plugged in (1 green light on front) but no display
The guy who gave it me said there was sound but i've not heard any, i have no idea having never used one before
any ideas?
