WTD: Pentium 4 processor (socket 478)

I'm wanting to upgrade my Celeron 2.4ghz processor, so I'm wondering if anyone has any Pentium 4 processors they don't want, specifically socket 478. The minimum speed I'd want is 2.80ghz, but preferably I'd like higher.

I have a 3.06Ghz P4, I never managed to get it working, so I dunno if it works or not, £12 delivered?
I could try and test it.

I'd certainly be interested if it was working, but I don't really want to take a risk on one that might not work. Thanks though.

If it's definitely 2.8ghz and working then I'd be interested, do you have a price in mind?

Does a Pentium 4 2.7ghz exist? I thought there were 2.66 and a few 2.8 versions, but not a 2.7. I'll probably be interested if you can clarify what it is exactly.

I'll go and test this 3.06Ghz one for you

Alright, thanks. :)

Gah, can't properly test it to be honest, all I have is an ancient motherboard and a broken power supply. The fans start up, but the whole thing soon shuts off (power supply's fault).

Damn, thanks for trying though. Could you be more specific about why it's never been in a working machine? Has it not worked in a machine that will otherwise work with a different socket 478 processor, or has it never had a chance to be in an otherwise working machine?

Aaaah Celeron. Sorry, I'm only interested in Pentium 4s.

I had a celeron 2.4, and bought this as an upgrade. I installed it, and the computer would start up, but I would get no picture on the monitor.
So yeah, It didn't work in a machine that otherwise works with a different processor.

You can have the celeron 2.4 if you want! :P

Ah, thanks for the info. It sounds too big a risk to take I think, but thanks anyway. It's not the money to be honest, it would just be the time of waiting for that to come, probably find out it doesn't work, then starting to look for one all over again...I want to get Football Manager up and running smoothly ASAP. :) Thanks again for the offer though.

Is this still available apples? I'd still be interested if you could confirm what processor it is.

Cheers Gavin I hadn't even considered cex, I thought they just did games and general electronics. It seems they have some P4 3.0ghzs for £30 in stock at my local one, that's a lot less than they're going for on eBay. I'm going to head there now and see if I can get one.

Hello M8,

Any chance I could have them please m8?
How does £30 sound including postage?
