Before going to eBay for this, hoping someone here might have one lying around.

A SATA MALE to MOLEX FEMALE POWER ADAPTER to allow me to connect an internal an DVD Drive with 5.25" Molex power plug to the S-ATA power connection of my Power Supply Unit (damn Dell!)

Can pay or offer you something in trade. Have lots of similar stuff not being used here. Thanks.

Thanks for that, but the picture looks like the molex is male - it has 4 pins rather than 4 holes right? Rep added

not sure i've seen the reverse of these bound to be one somewhere though,
have you checked your hard drive? some sata ones can take molex or sata psu connections, you might be able to swap it and use the freed connector for cd drive

You need a SATA female to a Molex Male, if i were you i would just buy a new writer for around 15 quid then sell the one youve got

no, I need a SATA male to Molex female as per title. And I know it doesn't seem to make sense to go to all this bother, but I'm still trying to get the old DVD drive I have that can read Wii games. I'm starting to think it might not work though, despite buying a caddy, (soon to) roll back a PC to XP and buying various connectors to install it internally

wow £6.00 for an adapter, so the caddy didn't work then?, will the dell not take an alternate power supply, look to the future lol

I know! lol - The caddy works but doesn't recognise the DVD - powers it though. Used a HDD in it with no probs. Might be Vista incompatibility with the drive but can't check that until I get a copy of XP. Only going to fork out for this adaptor as a last resort. I've been told that the caddy only acts a bridge so must be a driver/vista issue. Problem is can't find a driver for this old drive ( GDR 8161b ). - I can either laugh or cry

Think that is the one you have seen, if i were you i would just get it, because it is a very specialist item. Most people will have molex to sata.

Yep, ok. I'll lock this thread. Anyway, I will wait to see if the drive is recognised in the caddy after I put xp on a partition. Just waiting for a Dell XP reinstallation disc to do this. I don't care if if the drive is internal or external at this stage. I just want to make it work!!!

Thanks all.
