WTD: Socket 1155 CPU £45.00

Looking for a cheap CPU for an 1155 mobo

Really looking for a 4 core cpu if possible.

It does seem that the i3 isn't worth the money over the now very cheap celeron/pentium G ranges.

May be interested in this, if OP isn't what's the lowest delivered?
How old is it?
Has it been overclocked?

I actually have 2 of them from workstations I upgraded quite a while back, so although the OP is having one I still have another.
It's about 2.5 years old (but only had 1.5yrs use, was just too lazy to go about selling them), and they aren't overclockable so hasn't been pushed harder than it should handle.

You would need to check that your mobo supports Xeon's though, a lot do (BIOS update may be required), but there are some that don't.

£55 delivered is a bargain, so can't really go any lower.

Most H87 boards support the new unlocked Haswell based Pentium G3258, they're around £50 and can easily be overclocked to 4.5Ghz.
They've had great reviews and I'm about to build a budget system with one just for fun to see what I can get out of it.

If you're comfortable with overclocking and don't plan on doing much rendering you could look into one of those.

To be honest mine is a recent build, I was just skint when it came to the processor so to get it running I got a G3420 looking at an I5 but as the G3420 has passed my expectations e.g. runs Sniper Elite 3 and Titanfall on high i'm in no real rush just yet.
Overclocking is something i'm not into really especially with stock fans. Thanks for the info though.

In general I do think that the celeron/pentium G are very good value compared to the i3/5/7 chips. When you compare performance of the £25 CPU against £200 models there really isn't enough of a performance difference to justify the cost. I can't help thinking that Intel are playing games a bit with their pricing models.

I was looking for a 4 core CPU only because its listed as a requirement for star citizen.

My thoughts exactly, Watch dogs on PC states you need a 4 core with mine it lagged abit but after googling it seems to be a patch that states they have now fixed with the game itself, obviously my cpu maxed out at 100% so not sure which could be the cause, not worth upgrading for those sort of prices just yet as shogun, titanfall and sniper elite 3 are the only things i play and they run fine.
You definitely have a good deal with the Xeon though
