As above - ideally want everything included - so I can get going straight away...

I have only done a little bit of research - but I think that means -

IDE Harddrive
PS2 network adapter
PS2 memory card

I'm sure I can source Action Replay Max....

And poss a flash drive - I have a 2gb drive - is this to small?

You can actually just use a memory card loader with the PS2 now, it will work with any memory card and allow you to play backups or imports.
Ah - must have looked at an old tutorial - is this instead of the hard drive? Could you point to a decent tutorial?
Not honestly sure, I just saw the memory card loader knocking about the other day, I would say it's best to get one of those memory cards which also supports USB though like the Action Reply ones to copy the files across.

Thanks for the link - the originial tutorial I looked at seems easier - and I'm not exactly certain how they differ - although obviously both require HD and console - so I'm gonna stick to original method.

Still looking for a console though....
The Memory card loader doesn't need a hdd, it can load games from CD/DVD.
In steps, Timmy, the PS2 Softmodding meister....

Anyway, are you looking to play PS2 games from the HDD or CD/DVD?

There is indeed a Memory card loader for the PS2, It is commonly known as either FreeVast or FreeMcBoot.
You simply mod your memory card by running the app that mods the memory card on a modded ps2, then you stick that memory card in your ps2 and voila, off you go.....

Also an app called ESR allows you to play PS2 backups by simply patching them (talking about dvd-r iso's) then burning them to disk, then sticking the game in your ps2 and then load esr....
