WTD:Vista Ultimate x64 OEM Install Media £3.00

Need an install DVD for Vista Ultimate OEM 64bit.

Already have a licence (I bought Vista 32bit OEM but now want to install 64bit), just need the install media.

Can be an original or a copy. I'm under the impression that it is not against the copyright law to install the OS from a backup of the install media since the duplication restriction is against the COA sticker, which I already own and original of.

So yeah, if someone has the install media (original or backup), it would be greatly appreciated.

Hummm, thing is I own a licence, so I can legally install the software no matter what the source. I think the torrents are illegal because they come with activation cracks.

torrents arent illegal.

Surely you can download Vista off torrent? A non-activated etc one.. you own the COA so tbh I don't see whats wrong...

I think it should be 'Microsoft is Illegal'

Its not quite as clear cut as that though is it?

personally i would consider torrents to be illegal - some people would agree and some wouldn't

Also of these 'torrent' versions don't seem to be the proper OEM disc, some of them don't install properly..

torrents aren't illegal, plenty of perfectly legal material is shared via torrents. Linux distro's for instance. Some content in torrents is illegal, i.e some cracked vista torrents. However vista itself isnt illegal to download. It will let you install for 30days as a trial without a COA no matter whether you have the cd or a download. If you then activate it with your own COA then there is nothing wrong.

However, if the OP has bought 32bit vista im not sure he will be able to activate a 64bit version.

So I understand this...

You've purchased an x86 (32bit) OEM version of Vista and now want to install the x64 version?
It's an entirely different product so you will need to purchase the license for it (which will come with an install disc). For starters, the product key won't work. I won't even go into the legality of it all.

Oh and torrents are not illegal. I've used them for distribution of self-made instructional videos. Like most things in the world, they can be used for the wrong reasons - don't assume everyone does!

Why not? They do don't they?

You can order it legally from Microsoft direct

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx

I believe they charge about £10 for the cd/dvd

No.. As my post said, I've used them for home made instructionals.

You'll also find most Linux distros will be delivered by torrents too (http://linuxtracker.org/)

http://beta.legaltorrents.com/ is a site purely filled with legal stuff.

No, the x86 and x64 versions are on totally separate discs. They also require separate licenses.

lol, I've found the confusion.

For starts, you referred to it as the OEM retail version, which is a contradiction in terms. It can't be both.

The OEM version ships with 32 or 64 bit. the RETAIL version ships with both.

"Although OEM versions of Windows offer large savings over the retail versions, there are some things that potential buyers should be aware of. OEM versions are intended for use by system builders and OEMs as described below. OEM versions are tied to a single PC/motherboard, and come with either the 32 or 64-bit version of Windows (not both, as the retail versions have)."

With the Vista Utlimate DVD both the 32bit AND 64bit are included on the same DVD.

I think this applies to the RETAIL boxed version only, not the OEM version.

See here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/64-bit.aspx

That web page says

>Note: 64-bit media is included in the box with Windows Vista Ultimate.

Update: just seen the apend from Xb0xGuru which was on page 2 so I did not see it before adding my append.

You CAN buy LEGAL copy of vista 64 USING your own licence no matter what kind it is DIRECT FROM MICROSOFT they only charge a tenner for the disc because you already have a valid copy of vista 32

Sorry, just took a look and you're absolutely right.

So your product key is valid for both 32 and 64 bit versions of the TYPE of Vista you have.

What's NOT clear from the OP is what version of 32 bit Vista OEM he purchased - if he wants to try 64 bit Ultimate, he will need to have the 32 bit Ultimate Vista to begin with.
