...the previous HDUK bargain from eBuyer (system builder pack) would be ideal!

But let me know what you have and what you want!

Will this edition allow me to install the Home Premium edition? At installation if I recall, you get the choice of which version to install regardless of the licence you purchased the disc with... so in this case, could I use a higher-level licence and run a lower-level edition (if that makes sense)?

When you say OEM, what package is it exactly? Is it part of a manufacturer-specific build or independent OEM (ie will it be locked to a specific manufacturers mobo eg Dell/Gateway)?

Are you certain this will install on any PC? I have previously used similarly sourced discs (on XP as it happens), but the install falls over once it realises its not being installed to a manufacturer-specific machine (in this case, Acer).

well i am not 100 percent sure as it has not been used yet but i was led to believe the disk is an original microsoft product but it also includes a seperate one for the drivers

plus it has the COA label so i cant see why it wont install, but i will look into it for you.

OK; thanks. If it's a Microsoft disc, then it may well be the equivalent of a retail OEM, if the disc is branded then it may well be embedded with manufacturer specifics; do you have a picture of the disc perhaps?

i got vista ultimate or vista business you can have for £50.

Do you know if the licence allows you to install Home Premium with (say) the Ultimate key? I know at installation the same disc contains all versions and you select which you want...

OK, well if you're certain of this, then I may be interested. What edition do you have - Retail/OEM/Full/Upgrade etc? Do you have a pic to upload?

Cheers.

Vista Home premium EDU (acedemic) £53 (free del)

Haven't seen anyone get checked but I sure wasn't! It's an upgrade but you can do a clean install, which I will be doing in like a week. I'll let you know of it doesn't work.

To do a clean install google "vista upgrade CD" but basically you install it without activating and then upgrade Vista to Vista.

Anyway, why Vista? Ubuntu is so much better if not gaming. For gaming, XP is better than Vista. I went straight to Vista cos I can't afford both!

Can confirm that the Acer Vista Upgrade does indeed install and fully function on another PC.

Acer supplies two discs with their upgrade. The Acer "Compatibility" disc and the Vista Upgrade disc (albeit branded differently to a normal Vista Upgrade retail disc - but it is a ganuine Vista Upgrade disc like you would get if you bought it from PC World or where ever).

The Compatibility disc is not needed for an install on another machine, however the Upgrade disc will install but not activate. The trick here is to install it as a fresh install (so format the hard drive on the new machine) but NOT to put in the cd key when asked. When the install has finished, turn off the PC and then REINSTALL from boot (not from within Vista - contrary to the information from the poster above) format the drive again using the Vista installation tools (you will see an advanced optioon when you are asked to choose what drive you want to install Vista to - the format and partitioning options are here) and then when asked on this installation input the CD Key. When it has finally installed, activate as normal.

This is the same workaround for all copies of Vista Upgrade and although not technically legal due to the terms and condition of the Acer upgrade, it does indeed work.

Hope this helps someone out.

Can offer £45 inc. LMK.
#28
Would you be interested in a dell upgrade pack. It is complete and sealed with the license key inside.

I'd let it go for £45 inclusive of delivery
#29
Only after a genuine version.

alictait; wouldn't pay £45 for a manufacturer-specific repack, I'm afraid.
#30
No bother, but it def. does work on other pc's quick check of the web shows that.

Take a photo using VGA mode (or small file size) on your camera.
Visit www.imageshack.us and upload the pic to their site.
Copy the link you are given (you'll be given a list; use the last one at the bottom).
Come back here and click on the "Insert Image" link (the last but one icon when you write a message - looks like a mountain with a sun above it!).
Paste your copied link (from the imageshack site) into the box which appears... and post your reply.
Simple.

Hmm... I think Acer (and the likes of Dell etc) all negate the need for activiation which is likely why you weren't asked for a key. It's one of the reasons I would prefer a non-manufacturer specific version because if I ever get an issue where I need outside assistance I could run into issues having a Acer/Dell OS on a non-branded PC. :whistling:
#39
alictait; are there two discs in that package or just the one showing? I ask since I'm trying to work out what is included there... I *think* (someone feel free to correct me), that an "Express" upgrade version requires connection via the web to download components (posssibly Vista itself?).
#40
There are two discs, I just pushed the other out of the way.

Looks like it says use this dvd to upgrade the operating system on a dell pc.

Incidentally, I am using dell xp pro on a non dell pc. I.e. custom made, never had any issues
