Wouldn't recommend Windows 7 as yet as it is still in the testing phase (i.e. not stable), this from their own website:

You'll need some technical skills, like knowing how to:

Burn an ISO file to make an install DVD (A good example of what we mean by “technical”)

Install Windows (of course)

Backup and restore your PC (There's a chance of losing files, so it's a good idea to do a backup of anything you want to save.)

Set up a network

It can be glitchy—so don't use a PC you need every day.

Yeah i thought of that, theres gonna be alot of bugs in it, anyone got a windows xp or vista licence then? Don't mind which now

Actyually, although I'd never recommend anyone using it if they weren't happy to put up with faults, in the main is it amazing stable for a beta OS - and in my experience far better than vista sp1 even.

I use it at home on my main PC - because other than the MP3 issue (which didn't effect me), its brilliant.

No 1 got a spare product key going?

I've got a disc with a key that came off an old PC of mine, can provide the unused key along with the media if required? £20?
#13
I've got a product key for XP home edition. The laptop has died and I'm in the process of breaking it down. I may have the discs to go with the key, let me know. I'm Bolton based if you need to collect.

Would 1 of you take £15 for it?

Windows 7 if fine. No more buggy than Vista is.
Also its very stable, maybe more so than XP is.
#16
You can have it for free, it's no good to me now. I've got a new laptop with Vista. Anything to brighten the day of a fellow BWFC fan.

I got a Vista key, but the PC is not used. Will check tomorow. Its off a Dell PC, that was bought but it has now got XP, due to server issues.

I could do it for 20 via paypal gift. I will PM you the product key before and you can tell me if it works and pay me.

I only have the product key, the disc is not for that licence. I'll pm the product key if that will help.

I've just found the recovery disc for that PC, it looks as if it has a backup copy of XP.

i would lmao if someone sent you a key that didnt work, its like buying a copy, a dud key caught by microsofts authenticater can stop your pc in its tracks

I have a dell backup cd for xp, would that work trying to install windows? pugwish can you pm me the product key please?
#25
All these keys and stuff off laptops and dell PC's are more than likely OEM versions, which means the OS lives and dies with the motherboard it is installed to. OEM are not transferable

It's worth a try tho i'd say, if not i'll still have buy 1, pugwish you gonna pm me with the key?

Doing it as we speak.

An OEM Key will NOT work on a Retail install.

An OEM recovery disk will usually NOT work on any other system brand (ie: a dell recovery disk will not install xp on anything none dell)

You need either:

Retail key and a retail shiny xp disk
OEM key and a OEM shiny xp disk with OEM written on it.

Not a mixture.

Student copies are different again, and keys cannot be used with another type.
