It comes with:

I am looking for about £12 inc 1st Class Postage.

Hmmm I'm thinking of buying an original xbox to mod with xbmc. Ive found one local for £25 (boxed crystal with 3 official controllers & 4 carp games). Do you think this is a good deal and would you consider loaning the kit if it doesnt sell?
Seeing the RedIron seal of approval makes it more appealing but also makes me think that if a fool like him can make one of them things, I sure as hell can as well!

Yeah that's a good price, I flogged a Crystal Xbox with media centre on it for about £80 on E-bay, the controls sell for about a fiver each too

Xbmc is easy to do, if Tim doesn't lend you his kit i'll lend you mine for P&P

To make it though all you need is a USB cable with a female end, and the breakaway part of the Xbox controller. Cut those 2 and you'll have 4 wires inside the USB cable and 5 in the Xbox cable, ignore the yellow cable in the xbox control and you'll notice the other 4 wires have a matching colour in the USB Cable so join them together and that's your cable made

You then need a compatible USB stick with the softmod files on, that's easy to do and if you do decide to do it i'll giuide you through it

And cheers for callig me a fool :p

I think it is a good deal..Don't suppose you have a copy of COD4 for the PC, I'd do a straight swap for it.... really REALLy want it now... wish I hadn't sold it... :-D Got/getting (hopefully arrive tomorrow) a new graphics card so I can't complain to myself that it runs ****..... (8300gs 128mb vs 8600gt ... hm... 8600gt should beat the)

I could possibly sell you an inferior kit (no seal of approval...) if i can pick up a cheapo pendrive and an extension usb cable cheap..

I'm currently making the worlds smallest Xbox softmod kit, i've got the the bit that plugs into the Xbox with about 1 cm of cable on it. I'm then soldering those wires directly onto a small USB flash drive

I'm thinking of removing the plastic casing from the control adapter though and the casing of the pen drive and then taping the two directly together.

Don't ask me why I just though it would be fun

A small bare metal USB Pendrive with a capacity of 512mb.... may contain high school musical files on it...

Cool idea, how do you plan on shrinking the Splinter Cell Disk though? Shrink ray?

I wonder if the XBOX can read those small 1.4gb dvd disks? I would buy the softmod kit off so you so I could declare myself the person with the smallest softmod kit and then sell it on fleabay and say it is mega rare and come with special packaging and that if you don't buy it I will have you sniped proffesionaly in Halo 2...

Lol no not that one but I should do actually as that's tiny!

I could make the whole thing smaller than a £2 coin!

I don't know what i'd do about the splinter cell disk, maybe just draw a picture on it and then sign it so you could be the owner of the worlds smallest softmod kit with a splinter cell game with RedIrons own original art work, signed by none other than RedIron.

I don't think anyone would be able to afford it though as there will be nothing else in the world like it so i'd have to charge a fortune.

I can't see why a modded Xbox wouldn't read a smaller disk anyway, you could always get a free one off of the internet and then boot it up in linux to test it

Coming to think of it that disk wouldn't work without a chipped xbox anyway lol... (not orig disk,...)

I missed you RedIron:friends:
Im just going to get the xbox for our lass to use as a dvd player anyway. I just need the cbox controller plug then I can try and make my own do das. I have the female usb cable from an extension and can get splinter cell from a few places in donny for £1.50. I will be modding the usb adapter onto the xbox anyway as I want to be able to just plug in a usb stick to play video files off.

Cheers mate

Well if you change your mind about doing it yourself your more than welcome to borrow mine still

If you sit it on your network by the way you can play films straight from your PC so it saves putting them on a USB stick and doing it that way.

If it comes with 3 controls you can just use the breakaway cable from one of those as 2 controls is plenty enough for most people. If you really don't want to lose a control you can then wire a male USB end onto the controller and then plug it into your female USB port when you want to use it.

There is another option if you don't mind opening up your xbox;

1. Open the Xbox and on the rear of the control port is the same 5 wires as the xbox control has. Cut the control port out and then just wire your USB cable straight onto the wires the control port was connected to in the same way as you would to make the USB cable. A female USB port fits perfectly into the hole where the control port was too so when you look at the front of your Xbox ports 1-3 will be normal and port 4 will be a USB port.

It looks a lot better doing it that way too, you don't even have to lose a control port either as you can cut the wires as above but then join the USB wires and the the control port wires back onto wires coming from the mobo. Then run your USB cable inside the Xbox to the back and then cut a hole in your case for the USB port to sit in.

It sounds a lot trickier than it actually is and personally when i'm doing it on a Xbox I want to keep I always put the USB port in the place of control port 4

Thanks for that fella.
I didnt think of the controller option that sounds good so I dont lose a controller. I was thinking of just looking around for a cheap third party controller though as the ones with the console are all original.
If I modded the usb port onto the 4th controller port, would I be able to do that before I soft mod it so that I can transfer the softmodding files over like that?
I cant see it being a problem.
I cant netowrk it cos I usually down the films from elsewhere, not at home.

(enjoy the bumps Tim)

Yeah you can do that before you soft mod it so you can transfer all your softmod files onto the Xbox using the USB port you just made.

It is nice and easy to do, I did make a guide for it with pictures but that was ages ago and probably wouldn't be able to find it now. It is literally just a 5 minute job though and very easy to do so if you want me to write a quick guide I don't mind I can't be asked doing the pictures again though!

You don't even have to solder as you can just twist the wires together and put a little bit of insulation tape on them as the joins will be inside the Xbox anyway so you don't have to worry about them being yanked loose
