100 Windows 8 Tips, Tricks, and Secrets Kindle eBook for Free from Amazon

mindboommindboom

Product Description
Windows 8 is Microsoft's latest and greatest operating system, complete with a radical re-design to adapt to a world where tablet computers and mobile devices have evolved to sit side by side with desktop PCs and laptops.

Getting to grips with a new operating system can be a daunting task, especially one that has changed in so many ways. As well as a more traditional Desktop mode, Windows 8's Metro mode is specifically designed with touch screens in mind, all colorful and tiled and "Yikes! How do I even close an app?!"

This book will help you to hit the ground running with Windows 8, explaining in plain and simple English how to perform all of the tasks you did with your eyes closed in the days of Windows 7, XP, Vista (ugh!), and previous iterations - from Personalization to Admin Tasks to Internet and Networking. Whether you're a novice or PC savvy, there's lots for you to explore and this guide will give you a real boost.

    lol, exactly what i thought

windows xp was great, vista terrible, 7 mostly great but poor support at start from eg logitech. as for ms office - oh dear - 2003 was brilliant, 2007 was just awful, 2010 is slightly better but 2007 and 2010 alienated long established users like me that use shortcuts - they removed alot of them so they are in the top menu to cater for dumbos- DUMB!

I love how people have got real rose tinted glasses about XP now that it's been around for so many years that people have forgotten the launch. Yes, XP was good, but it was also quite a pain for a lot of people (home users especially) who were moving for the first time from the old Win 9x versions of Windows. Check here for a good example from 2001, where 49% of people gave this "great" operating system a thumbs down.

Indeed - XP started off worse than Win 7. It just that its had the time for a large support base to develop (over 10 years oO ). Win 7 I feel started off much more solidly, even when using the pre-releases it generally behaved much better out of the box.

Having tried the Win 8 preview - again my computer didn't completely fall over in terms of hardware/compatibility issues but I just think metro (while pretty and slick) is just the completely wrong UI to use for regular mouse/keyboard.

Office 2003 I now find quite hideous to use compared to 2010, I can see what they were aiming for with the ribbon (which 2007 kinda failed at to an extent) but I think full-featured office clients are slowly going obsolete to cloud based solutions (ie OfficeLive/Google docs)
