THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE EXPECTING A CHILD AFTER APRIL 6TH 2009

Not sure if this has been posted

From April 2009, you can claim a one-off, tax-free payment from H M Revenue & Customs (HMRC) if you're a mum-to-be who's at least 25 weeks pregnant. The payment is called 'Health in Pregnancy Grant' and is to help you prepare for the birth of your baby.

Your due date needs to be on or after 6 April 2009 for you to make a claim.

Who can get Health in Pregnancy Grant?

You can get the grant if all of the following apply:
you are 25 weeks pregnant or more
your expected date of delivery is on or after 6 April 2009
you have been given health advice from a midwife or doctor
you may not get the grant if:
you are subject to immigration control or
you are not present, ordinarily resident or have a right to reside in the UK
How much do you get?

The grant will be a one-off payment of £190 for each pregnancy. It will not affect your tax credits or any other benefits. Everyone will get the same amount you will not be asked about your income.

hope it helps some one

Labour - encouraging the creation of new taxpayers of the future! :)

Only kidding - good deal if you meet the criteria.

We are planning to have another child next year but despite this, does anyone else feel the government has got the tax system completely wrong? The VAT reduction has done naff all and we are all going to have to pay for it later with a rise in income tax.

My dad gets the winter fuel allowance despite being more than comfortable financially and we will be eligible for this payment despite being pretty good financially too!

Government wasting money - grrrr!
#4
Annoyingly, you can only get this if your due date is on or after 6th April. Ours is 30th March, so we can't get it :-(
#5
Good way to get your hand on a Nintendo Wii :-D

I miss this :? My due date is March 18th! lol! (and this is baby number 2.. And the last..)

this is very useful to me. My girlfriend is preggers and alough we both work and get a not bad pay this would come in very handy to go towards this 'icandy' pram she has her eye on.

Saying that if there is any way i can claim the money without her finding out there is no 2 ways about it this money is going towards a quad bike for me to rip it about in the summer.

My wife at the moment is 22 weeks pregnant,so would we still qualify?
As said before she is due on 26th May.
Or should i wait a few weeks?

Thanks for posting. Didnt know about this, have sent it around to a few of my mates. You never seem to hear about government giving away money like this, but there's an advert every 5min on tv, radio, online for me to give them money via tax returns!!

Here is more information for those that cannot be bothered to click on go to deal:

How do you claim?

Get a claim form from your midwife or doctor any time from 1 January 2009 onwards - as long as you're at least 25 weeks pregnant and your expected delivery date is on or after 6 April 2009. Your midwife or doctor must fill in their part of the form and sign it before giving it to you.

You will need to get your claim form to HMRC within 31 days of your midwife or doctor signing the form - otherwise you may miss out on the grant.

You can get a free text message or email reminder to help you remember to claim if you are not 25 weeks pregnant yet.

Sign-up for the HiPG reminder service
How is the Grant paid?

HMRC will pay the grant directly into your bank or building society account any time from April 2009 onwards. Don’t worry if you don't have an account - any bank or building society will help you open one.

How stupid do they think we are!

I'm heartily sick of the government wasting my hard-earned taxes on half-baked, badly thought out and plain pointless schemes like this. It does nothing but increase the dependency culture; might as well flush a few million quid down the toilet (although I expect the toilet is already blocked with all the other billions that have been wasted over the last gawd-knows-how many years on cock & bull schemes like this)

I'm with you Jeezypeeps. We should be allowed to live our lives with as little intervention from the government as possible. We are supposedly living in a free country but we have never been monitored more. We are taxed more than any other democratic country and yet it's wasted on gimicky policies and failing infrastructure.

Grrrrr it gets my goat.
#24
cheers OP, my girlfriend is due in june and this will be a great help with work putting us on 50% pay for 2 months in april and may
#25
190 is a small amount for one person, but an unnecessary huge payment to a lot of people. If you can't afford kids - don't have them. It is not your right.

Im new to this site but im into it al ready. Someone tell me how to leave heat so i can thank this guy.

PS cheers for funding my trip to ibiza you tax paying clowns!!!

top stuff for those who can get it.

anyone know of any other financial help similar to this??
#33
Great news. I'm expecting our second child on 20 May so will qualify. Even those, like myself, who earn a decent wage appreciate the help. It's an expensive business but so worth it.
#34
:shock:another kick in the teeth of hard working childless people........... why should my hard earned taxes be spent so frugal its a disgrace yet again let down

Our baby is due on the 1st of March - Typical!!! :?

Is there a website that states what we are entitled to claim as we've not had a penny yet?

Knowing my luck, because myself and my girlfriend have worked all our lives we'll not be entitled to anything though :x
