Just done this myself no problems and got two albums i wanted

Go through Quidco to the emusic site and select the free trial - this will give you £4 in your Quidco

you will be then entitled to 25 music tracks that can be opened in Itunes so no probs putting them on your ipod etc. You have two weeks to select the tracks after which your account will be upgraded and you will have to pay so make sure that once youve selected the tracks you cancel the account

you will receive an email confirming cancellation of the account

please note that you have to enter your credit card details to sign up but no charge is made if you follow the above steps

Yep, there's the problem; right there :?

i can confirm this is all good got 2 albums and quido has tracked....

Cancelled real easy too

Really good for some obscure albums. You know, the ones that cost £20 on Amazon Marketplace used, and which can't be found on itunes/napster etc.
#12
quidco hasnt tracked yet, registered yesterday ... i'll wait and see during the week.

emusic is a very mixed bag.

Found a lot of lovely Irish folk music  and some very nice but "ancient" Dance/Trance tracks (probably have each of those on CDs already). Rock songs were mostly cover versions or really lousy recordings by the original artist - none of which were worth downloading.

Note: emusic will preauthorise your credit card for £1 (to make sure the card works I guess), the money will reappear on the card after 2-4weeks (Apple iTunes does the same).

IMO: Only worth signing up to for the £4 Quidco credit - shame. :gift:

Yes, unfortunately I will not be parting with my CC details for £4 Quidco. Would have been hot if it was a non-CC trial signup.

I made that mistake! Downloaded my 25 free tracks a few days after signing up because I struggled to find anything that I wanted to listen to and lo and behold when I checked my bank the next day they had already taken the £10.99 out of my bank account:w00t:
Lesson learnt! I won't fall for that again!

Just signed up.

After spending half an hour looking round I could nothing of any interest (to me).

The files have the extension .emp ?? Anyone know how to play them?

Cancelled membership.

The £4 is excellent, but eMusic is rubbish. A lot of artists not there and tracks that you do want are frequently obscure/live versions.

I struggled to find the 25/40 (what ever it was) free tracks and cancelled well before the end of my free trial (no problem).

I'm tempted to sign up just for the Braintoy album (Vehicles). It's mint.

Though I want it in FLAC, not MP3. I'm still waiting on the band.

You either have to download the eMusic Download Manager (which opens the .emp files and in turn downloads the mp3), or switch the Download Manager mode off (somewhere in your account settings). Then when you download you will get the mp3s direct.

Selection of tunes not fantastic, but cashback its worth it for cashback. Remember to cancel in plenty of time to avoid monthly charge. I signed up, downloaded and then cancelled within same day. Took a while to appear on Quidco balance, but validated very quickly and paid out within the month.

Unlike others, I loved it. Loads of punk, folk and hip hop artists (I have a varied taste in music!), downloaded fine and cancelled fine. No sign of Quidco yet, but as some have said it takes a while, i'll hold on for a few weeks yet :)

OK, time for a plug as I love this site and it's changed how I consume music completely (not a shill, just a fan!).

eMusic's an excellent site, but you have to have a decent wide taste in music. They specialise in independent music, so you won't find a lot of current top 40-type stuff but there's some good names if you shop around. Names I've downloaded from there include: Stereophonics, The Prodigy, Bjork, Beck (just his new album), Monkey, Underworld, Isaac Hayes, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Feeder (again just their new album).

They've been running for over 10 years and they're usually pretty reliable. The credit card requirement is to stop people taking the p**s by opening multiple accounts and just downloading the freebies. As long as you follow the correct procedure for cancelling (click on your account, select cancel and follow the wizard), you won't have a problem. There's a friendly bunch of regulars on the message board (myself included) and the normal prices are very cheap - you subscribe for a certain number of tracks/month and prices start from under 30p/track.

There we go, there are problems with the site (customer service is very slow but usually good results, you have to be careful with big name artists as sometimes there's live/re-recordings instead of the major label-owned originals) but it's a decent site for some quick freebies and/or ongoing cheap tunes.

******, forgot to sign up through Quidco!
#30
Done this... also this is an excuse for me to sign up for Cashbackkings aswell. Presume it works in much the same way as Quidco.

Edit: Also for anyone wondering - I have successfully signed up to emusic using a Visa DEBIT card, so don't give up once you're told only CC's are accepted! No option for Switch/Mestreo/etc, though.

Just repped you!

Is that a word?

Just a heads up to those trying this... I've just been had big time by eMusic.

I downloaded one album (M.I.A - Kala, 13 tracks) purely to check the quality and to check for DRM, and partly because I couldn't find anything else on there that I liked!

Having downloaded the tracks, my account shows that I've got 27 left in my allowance. Instantly I figured I'd been billed. Sure enough I have.

I've downloaded 13 tracks, 2 days into a 14 day/25 track trial and they've billed me. Great work.

I've just got off the phone to their US 'customer support' and been told that the entire system is automated and that they can only see what tracks (by title) I've downloaded.

They can't tell me which IP downloaded the tracks, nor how much data has been transferred to 'my computer' - all they could tell me was that "I must have downloaded the tracks, computers don't lie"

I'm now on the phone to my bank in hope they can cancel the transaction.

Strange, I didn't have any problems. I wasn't planning on using the 25 free downloads but figured I might aswell see how their system works as it's all non-DRM'd and not utter tripe like most pay music stores. Used up 23 of my 25 downloads to be on the safe side and cancelled. Quidco validated v.quickly, just after a couple of hours.

I've also been charged and only signed up 2 days ago. It might be because I downloaded more than 25 tracks but i figured it would stop me after my free allowance, guess not.

Be careful not to get charged on this one.

it doesnt stop you after you use your free allowance

it clearly shows at the top of your account page how many free downloads you have left

Do you have to download any of the songs for the Quidco to track, or can i just sign up and then cancel straight away for the £4 quidco bonus?

Nah you don't have to download anything, it's up to you whether you want to take advantage of that or not.

Just downloaded four albums I wanted to buy and cancelled immediately after signing up a few days ago (50 free tracks). Quidco has already tracked. Only downloaded 49 songs.

Synced with iTunes and worked a treat.
