Absinthe 2.0.4 jailbreaks all (iPhone & iPad) iOS 5.1.1 devices

CMTCMT

Absinthe's "so-easy-your-grandma-could-do-it" jailbreak tool just got an update to version 2.0, enabling support for a handful of Apple portables running iOS 5.1.1. Absinthe 2.0, which was developed by the "Jailbreak Dream Team" (Chronic-Dev and iPhone Dev) joins Redsn0w's tool, and will support all iPhone and iPad versions, with the exception of iPad2,4 -- the most recent iPad 2 variant, shipping with a 32nm A5 chip. The jailbreak tool can also be installed on iPod3,1 and 4,1 models.

People who need unlock to use their devices, be careful while updating to newer iOS version or use instruction to upgrade with custom ISPW (firmware file) to preserve your baseband

If you need to unlock your iPhone or iPad to use it on a different network then you should not upgrade to newer firmware/software, as unlock is not available for new versions. There is a way around it, there are utilities like redsn0w which will let you customise your firmware files which doesn't upgrade the baseband (part which is required to enable unlock)

Some people are reporting issues but people in forums are suggesting a clean restore then jailbreak & then restore from backup. Again in developer's defence, its first release they might be able to sort out any kinks further down the line if any. We should be thankful to them & patient as they do it for free, people only donate out of their own will, no compulsion ... so we must show our gratitude

Tried it myself, do a normal restore (or a an upgrade if you are iOS 5.1) & before restore froming backup try it, it finished the job is less than 1 minute

I would get this but as a dev I'll be getting my hands on iOS 6 in about 3 weeks so it's not really worth the hassle.

Voting hot on behalf of most people though, tethered jailbreaks are just not worth the hassle in case device reboots when not at home so this is a great usable solution.

So easy to do with absinthe, you need to be on 5.1.1 though to do it. I think they should have waited till 6.0 though to see if the exploit was still available.
