The Fire TV Remote App enhances the Fire TV experience with simple navigation, a keyboard for easy text entry (no more hunting and pecking), quick access to your apps and games, plus voice search. Voice search is powered by the same voice search engine as Amazon Fire TV and supports the entirety of Fire TV’s integrated video, app and game catalogue. Note that voice search does not work directly inside individual applications such as Netflix.

Features:
• Voice Search
• Simple Navigation
• Playback Controls
• Keyboard for simple text entry
• Quick access to your apps and games

Compatibility:
• Multicast-enabled router required
• Designed for simple navigation and playback control of Fire TV and Fire TV Stick

Also available on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.storm.lightning.client.aosp&hl=en_GB

Hasn't this always been free? I certainly never paid for it.

As far as I know.

But I only recently knew about it. Surely this counts a 'deal' regardless of whether it has always been free.

But, by that logic, so do all well rated apps on the play store, and there are thousands upon thousands of those!
This isn't a new app, nor is there a reduction from it being a paid app.

Not really as getting this app potentially saves somebody £10-£20 if they were instead going to buy a replacement remote if theirs is broke or lost. So I think this app could represent a saving and therefore constitutes as a deal.

Horses for courses.

You could make that case for an aweful lot of apps. At the end of the day, if this was viewed as a deal, people would be voting hot.
This doesn't replace the remote. I use it but only when I need to input text. Otherwise I stick to the remote.

People actually getting worked up about a post for something that's FREE and costs Nothing is hilarious :)

I love this site but damn there's a lot of people with nothing better to do than complain and cry over 'deals' (or freebies as in this case).

It's a great app if you have an Amazon Fire TV especially if you're entering text. I think it's great to raise awareness of it however maybe this would be best placed under freebies.

Thanks OP for posting.

I use it as a replacement for the remote. My one year old daughter is always misplacing mine!

As well as using it to enter text, there's a handy bit where you can add shortcuts to any apps (Netflix, Kodi, BBC iPlayer etc) that you have installed.

By that logic, air should be considered a freebie, reckon it's worth posting a deal here?

Does it only turn the stick on and off?

Hardly worth it. :{

It does aĺl the same things as the remote but typing on yor phone with the app is quicker when doing a search especially if you have kodi on your firestick plus apparently spare remotes for the firestick are quite expensive.
