for more info ....Please read on ...

Duplicate Cleaner 1.3 is a tremendously helpful program for anyone wishing to tidy up a PC by identifying and deleting duplicate files. Though simple to use, we don't recommend this for novices, because of the potential damage from mistakenly removing needed files.

Any piece of software can do this.. why are you targeting this one in specific?

if you have a half decent firewall program, it will prompt you to allow internet access, block it, thats what i did

IO Bit software is trusted, reliable and very highly recommended , if you really must delete stuff.
Toolbox from them is portable and has a vast array of tools. Easy to use also.

Anyone who makes comments like those above about this is definitely the sort to be ignored.

Well, I am not too clever on these things so would welcome advice on other options. Like Iobit toolbox which can't start because "rtl.bpl is missing from your computer". How on Earth am I to find a nice easy to use program if it foxes me at installation stage!! I have no idea what rtl.bpl is and will delete now.

Are you using Windows XP? Here's a discussion on rtl.bpl missing. Hope it helps. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3066776.php

Ok thanks for that I'll take a look. Some of us just need a big red button with "install" written on it :)

Well I dunno. Some folks aren't so keen on the reputation they've now acquired for plagiarising software from a company others feel is those things eg. Google "McAfee siteadvisor iobit" for some intro background. Or course folks will chose to believe as they wish and most prolly won't care.

I've used DupKiller in the past with great success. I had over 10GB worth of duplicates!

A word of warning when deleting duplicates. Be very very careful what you delete, what auto-decisions you set up and don't rush. The room for nasty errors is huge!

nice one thanks

On download.com who check files/programs for spyware etc .

can be more trouble than its worth, especially if you let the software auto delete any dupes.

beware of these programs, windows does have duplicate system file names but in different locations. be careful what you delete
#22
be careful doing an auto dulicate delete as some songs from different albums will be the same name but for instance one will be a noraml version and another the acoustic one
#23
nice one thanks

Really do not bother using something like this until you really do not have any room left on your hard drive - and then try deleting big files and uninstalling programs rarely or never used first. If you do want to take the massive risk of deleting some import OS files then take a restore point before hand but even this will probably not save you when your PC refuses to boot up.

Can i just ask, does this clear only files with the same or similar name or will it check the contents of everything?

Just install comodo system cleaner

it does duplicate file deletions and so much more and is FREE!

cue someone posting it in freebies lol

If it's anywhere near as good as Reasonable No Clone then you should almost certainly bag this while it's free.

RNC checks all types of files and from my vast vast VAST experience of putting the same thing on my PC in 20 different folders it has never once found a duplicate that wasn't actually a duplicate. And you just tell it where to search so your Windows and Apllication files will be OK if you avoid the right folders. I'm sure this software will have similar abilities.

The only fault - as mentioned already - is making a mess of mp3 or indeed photo albums where you should have another copy... Take a bit of care though and this is easilly overcome!

Hot as you like. Top spotting poster!
