How to sign up to PLAYSTATION Network
Firstly, ensure your PS3 system is hooked up to your broadband connection. Then navigate across the Home Menu to the Friends category and select [Sign Up for PLAYSTATION Network].
Once into the first page of PLAYSTATION Network Account Registration, simply follow the on-screen instructions. Please note, that the Online ID is the nickname you will be known as through online games, friends messaging, etc. so choose carefully. The ID that you select must be globally unique.

i signed up @ 1.30am on the 23rd so hoping i get a copy
#3
Wait a few weeks and retailers will have so many unsold PS3's that you will get a free PS3 with any blue-ray movie, LOL.
#4
Ummm everyone knows this -- cold
#5
This is like the free Spiderman 2 UMD offer Sony did for the PSP, great stuff especially since I got my PS3 today for free too.
#6
Bargain, spend over £400 and get a free DVD

voted hot, as some people wont know about this, i got mine ordered yesterday.

ps3 is better than xbox360 imho. no need for an ugly looking add on to play high def films :)

and sitting the ps3 next to a 360 makes the ps3 look so much cooler.

the PS3 is better because the hd-dvd drive of a 360 is ugly and the PS3 is better looking? I never thought about that, really effects how the games play, eh? :giggle:

Xbox allows gamers to decide if they want to watch HD movies PS3 forces this feature down their buyers throats which would be nice if it didnt have the price tag to match

isnt microsoft doing the same thing here? you can have hd dvd, as long as it is hd, not blue ray.

great choice :whistling:

ill never understand why people get so upset about these things, if you really hate ps so much go play with the xbox

ill just have both systems thankyou very much and now ive got the choice:giggle:

No, they were prepared to 'sell out' and it didnt go to plan, my cousin works in currys in Nottingham, he told me 10 people pre ordered it and 4 came in on launch day and asked for a refund and were told it was non-refundable, they sold 6 that day.

yes but wouldn't that be because they could get a better deal elsewhere (or use money off coupons online).

jez guys look up the stats (1080p output for starters) the PS3 is the best and for that reason costs more. I havent looked it up but how much does an Xbox360 (premium) with a HD player, then think about how long its been on the market.

yes the price tag is exspencive but look up blu-ray players and think about what you get in the package.

i'm not a sony nut and dislike the way they segregate themselves from the market. Also, Personally i cant afford a 1080p tv or a PS3 at the moment. but it don't stop me wanting both. In the mean time i'm just happy that the xbox360 has come down so much.
#14
yes we knew of this i just hope mine arrives :) the casino royale 1080 trailer is ACE !!!!!
#15
I signed up my PS3 the day I brought it but I didn't receive any email stating I would receive the film? I had brought the film anyway because a shop near me had it on special offer (£10) and I can the film is mint on Blu-ray. Somone mentioned to me about this promotion that Sony was doing for this film and they told me it was the first 5000 people that got them??

Also to point out you can download Gran Turismo for free on the PS3 granted its only one track (I think) but its still free.
#16
Hate to point this out, but the PC has been Hi-Def for over a decade. How did this become a selling point for something under a TV?

LOL, think because Sony told them they wanted it.

Blu ray is not capable of 1080p so that arguments flawed straight away.

The Ps3 is not as powerful as you are assuming because although the launch games look better then the 360 launch games they have infact been developing Resistance for longer then Gears of war and to compare the two for gameplay, sound and graphics is rediculous.

The games on the Ps3 are poor at best. Style over substance..just look at motorstorm. 8 tracks and 1 mode! thats shocking for a "next gen" games.

This is what you can get for less then a PS3 apparently coming out late April.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/20/xbox-360-elite-new-black-limited-edition-xbox-with-hdmi-and-120gb-drive/

It will costs around £330 !

The reason the xbox 360 doesnt have the hd-dvd drive is because its about choice.I have a xbox360 but no hi def tv so i wouldnt want to pay £450 just now as i can't use it.

Um, wrong. But thanks for playing anyway...

Both HDDVD and Blu Ray support 1920×1080 24p or 50/60i HDTV. That's the whole point of them.

360 cannot do 1080p, at best it can do 720p or 1080i. not 1080p!

has anyone had any emails regarding free copy of casino royale? is ther anything special you have to do or just create you ps3 account?

The 360 can do 1080p there was a dashboard update which changed the original settings.

My TV only does 1080i but the option is their on the 360 to put it in 1080p

Blimey people do get protective of their preferred games console don't they? Here is the registration link for the PS3 whereit gives the T&C for the free Casino Royal Blu-Ray disc. Note you have to connect your PS3 to the internet and register via the friends menu to qualify for the disc but it's very easy - I did it yesterday.

http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/registration/

As far as people pre-ordering and then not collecting goes, I am pretty sure this is not a failure on the part of Sony but rather those thousands of people who thought they could sell on through Ebay at a huge profit like Wii, X-Box, PS2 etc etc. Once they realised that they wouldn't even get their money back they backed out.

Fair play to Sony for flooding the shops with more supply than demand I say (it's not like they have a sell by date is it!) This has meant that those who genuinely wanted the thing for themselves could get one and not have to line the pockets of some Ebay tout who cleverly pre-orders these things just to make a fast buck. That's the way it should be.
#24
Thanx for the post, Im kicking myself for already ordering it.

As a matter of fact, Black Hawk Down on Bluray is 1080 (Full HD), says so on the back of the box. Hitch and CS dont unfortunatly.

Batman Begins, V for Vendetta and King Kong on HD-DVD are all 1080p.

So lets play nice, we all have 1080p.

Whats more worrying is where are the lack of Dolby/DTS HD sound tracks, most of the titles just have 5.1 :whistling:

i dont want to open up another can of worms but.......

i was under the impression that component cables can only produce 1080i due to copyrights, AACS (the encryption for HD DVD and Blu-Ray) will not allow 1080p over component.

i think this is different for games, but for movies no 1080p through component?

and VGA and HDMI are the only ways to produce 1080p.

but VGA looks inferior to HDMI.

please correct me if im wrong!

correct 1080p is only possible through VGA and HDMI I think

currently only a VGA cable is available officially from microsoft. but with the 99% certain xbox360 v2 comming out with HDMI, a HDMI cable will be along the way so people can use that.

Also 3rd party company might be selling a HDMI cable, I am not sure

as for VGA being inferior I can't really comment although I doubt it. its a cable at the end of the day as long as it has enough pinouts and is not made from a poor quality cable the results will be the same.

also I have yet to compare 1080i and 1080p side by side, but from people I have spoken too there is barely any difference from the human eye.

as my xbox is running on component right now I am unable to see what it looks like at 1080p on HDMI
#29
360 can do 1080p and a recent example is Virtua Tennis 3 which also plays at 60fps. So these claims are garbage, people listen to Sony far too intently :)
The difference between VGA and HDMI is that VGA is analogue so can suffer from signal loss, although trying to notice this is pretty irrelevant unless you have a very long cable or an unshielded cable. HDMI is digital - pretty much the same as DVI

also, comparisons between PS3 and 360 games show PS3 is a lot brighter and washed out for some reason, could be due to using HDMI in comparison to Component and VGA that come out darker on the 360.

i noticed the ps3 being slightly brighter on my plasma than my 360. on lcd the difference between the two are a lot more noticable

You can play games at 1080p through a component cable, although they are upscaled by the 360 due to almost all of the games being made for 720p.

Viewing HD-DVD's via component cables with with 360 set to 1080p drops the TV down to 1080i.

You are right, at the moment the only way to watch 1080p HD-DVD's on the 360 at that resolution / scan rate is with a VGA cable.
