Not sure if this really qualifies as a deal but worth knowing about:

It is now possible to get Caller Display from BT for free if you signup for their free Privacy at Home Service.

BT Privacy at Home gives you more control over who you speak to and we provide it at no extra cost all you need to do is sign up.

BT Privacy at Home registers you for the Telephone Preference Service which helps stop unwanted sales calls.

It also includes Caller Display, which lets you see the number of the person who's calling, so you can decide whether or not you want to take the call.

been around for a gud 12 months this one..................................
#2
More than 12 months actually been using it for over 2 years.
#3
Been around a while and you have to make a few chargable calls per month otherwise they charge you for the service.
#4
still woth reminding folks! :)
#5
Why cold? It's a useful reminder to loads of people who weren't aware of it. Just remember to make the calls to need to make to keep it free - it's a small price to pay for the 'free'caller display.
#6
I wasn't aware & my other half works for BT! Useful info.
#7
You need to make 2 chargeable calls each month for the 3 months. Otherwise they will charge you about £6 for the service every quarter

It is good to remind people of this deal but many people may not read the small print, and get stung by this seemingly free service from BT.

Well done though
#8
Actually,

Its not 100% free

you need to make atleast 1 outgoing call per month or you are charged the normal price for it.

I only have my land line in for broadband and no phone use is made, so i get charged

Cut and Paste from the BT Website

"Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £1.71 a month for BT Caller Display. Customers who are billed every three months must make at least six chargeable calls within those three months, otherwise BT reserves the right to charge £5.14 a quarter."

Surely it would be cheaper to call a friend than be charged for the service. Better yet, ring both of them once a month during the billing quarter. :w00t:

thanks i didnt know about this either

I pay BT for line rental but all my calls are covered by my Aol account. Any ideas on how I can make a call on my BT account to qualify for this deal?

My line rental is also through BT, but my calls are through Sky.

To make the required amount of chargeable calls through BT and not Sky, I dial 1280 before the number I am calling. I think you have to use the STD code as well - even for a local call.

Never been charged for the BT services as yet.

Hope this helps

#21
tescos home phone charges me 50p a month for this !!!
#22
You need to make 2 chargeable or inclusive calls per month to have free caller display, or it is £1.73 per month.

Inclusive calls means basically any call, even if you have free eve and weekend calls, making a call then would count.

If you have your calls through another provider, unless you dial 1280 before making a call then you will be charged for the service :)
#23
so if im on tesco home phone if i dial 1280 before i enter a number i will get free caller display?

Yes, if you do it twice a month and the call connects so that BT charge for the calls.

Dial 1280 before you dial the number to route your calls through BT.

I thought Sky have now stopped allowing 1280? It seems the call still gets routed through Sky even if you dial 1280. I got a letter from Sky saying so and was also charged by BT. Anybody knows the correct and current facts on this?
#27
nice noification especially if you use the phone as it will incurr no additional caosts.

Again BT acting in an absolutely disgusting manner where they could equally provide this basic functionality for free but want to milk it by forcing people who are low users (or BB users) to make calls and therefore line their coffers. It is not as if we dont already pay line rental !
#28
:)

Thanks for this
#29
Thanks - I've been paying for caller ID for ages.

I believe that doesnt work anymore. It's now impossible to make calls via BT if your with Sky for calls. Thats the reason I switched line rental to Sky as well. I get free caller display and answerphone and line rental is a couple of quid cheaper as well.

No doubt it'll be a pain when I want to go back but still...

I'd never heard of this as I've only been a BT Customer for 4 months and was completely off my radar. Thanks for pointing it out!
#32
hot for me - currently getting charged the £1.73 as my call charge is with Tesco
#33
Thanks for the reminder. When I checked my caller services, I am already subscribed. However, BT has the audacity to charge me £1.48 per month for "BT Caller ID"! I have made a complaint...
#34
I've been on this caller display scheme with BT for a couple of years and used 1280 a couple of times a month to ring my mobile and never got charged (calls go through SKY). Got my bill in December and was charged for this "free" service. I did notice that someone had used the call back on 1471 and was charged by BT for the pleasure so I'm wondering if these ringback calls will count towards my couple of calls a month through BT. I'll try it and if it doesn't work BT can wave goodbye to another happy customer

Most people who have Caller ID probably pay for it as part of their features plan with other services i.e. ring back etc.

Caller ID is Free (subject to T&C's) when you sign up for Privacy at Home.

I used to pay for Caller ID but found out about this a few months back and swapped Caller ID for another service (Call Diversion) in my Feature Plan.

From BT FAQ

"I'm already paying for Caller Display. What happens when I take up BT Privacy at Home? You will no longer pay for Caller Display after subscribing to BT Privacy at Home, if you continue to make some calls with BT.

If you are renting Caller Display as part of the BT Calling Features packs, any change to your rental charges will be adjusted automatically. You may, of course, want to replace Caller Display with another feature from the range of services available. You can do this when you sign up for BT Privacy at Home online."

It's so you can see who BT have sold your details to. I was getting 2 - 3 calls a week from companies claiming to be BT. Chucked everything over to sky and not had a single one. Amazing
#37
This deal is nothing new, but for those that didn't know of the feature it's a good reminder, or for anyone on the old chargeable 'caller id' it's time to get it for free via privacy pack.

I have a few BT calling features, caller display / call sign / call diversion. All very handy.

Thanks for that, just signed up, I never knew about it.
#39
heat added, added the service online, good stuff as I always end up getting charged for local calls somehow
#40
Cheers for that, as a new BT customer, didn't know about it. H&R duly applied.
