I HAVE EXPIRED THIS - REASON

SO DOWNLOAD NOW AT YOUR OWN RISK. I THINK IT IS BETTER NOT TO

I am currently in the USA and checking out the equivalent of hotukdeals in the USA. I came across this (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/979153/?start=0) from one poster. I have installed it but not played around with it yet. Someone may find it useful. I know there are other freebie tools out there that can do similar things but someone may find an interest to this.

Note, all u need to do is get the licence code then download the s/w. There is no requirement to enter any personal details including email addy. I do not know how long this offer is for though. When I installed it and entered the code, it did freeze the app. Not sure if its my laptop or not but then I killed the process and after that it was fine.

Brilliant find. Rep and heat added
#2
hi, does anyone have experinece of using this?
#3
Got this free in November when it was last posted,(post appears to have dissapeared) seems to do what it says it can do. Everytime you use it a dialogue box asks you to upgrade to a newer version which costs $25
#4
Thankyou
#5
I use DVD Fab which I find good enough which is also free, but if you feel this is better go for it...
#6

I also use DVDFab. Do you have the latest version?

I can't seem to find a version of it that works to back up the latest DVDs, especially some Disney ones.

Heat added - tried this last night and is a great product!

You're probably joking, but yes, many of us do backup our legitimately purchased DVDs because it's hand to have a digital copy you can take with you and watch when you want without bothering with finding the DVD. It's one of the many reasons I'm sticking with DVDs instead of Blu-Rays which are much harder to backup (I think the only reliable option is a pay program and since I don't pirate and don't want to pay...).
#13
Voted hot, seems to be a 1 month trial.
#14
Voted Hot & Rep'd, thanks. :)

Excellent - put first movie onto PSP already - Thanks

this is legitimate but the SE free edition has a lot of functionality stripped out. What exactly do you want to do? just plain old dvd copies?

best conversion tool (e.g. avi or dvd folder to ipod, psp etc etc is XVID4PSP)

best free ripper I have found is dvdshrink

I use a software firewall called Comodo (freebie) and so far I have not seen it access the net but to be on the safe side I have blocked all net access. When installing, I did not see anything dodgy on registry updates, file creation etc (found via comodo notifications).

I too cannot find much on the net about this. Perhaps a new startup or something.

I did a whois and came up with this.

So its pretty new. But good point about how valid this is. Now Im getting a little concern lol.

Previously I had been using freebie tools like dvdshrink, dvdde.... and autoknot (strip to avi tool)

Good tips. I would certainly block this software in my firewall but that wont stop it playing havoc with your pc. The fact the whois states its only a few months old when the original software company are years old is highly suspicious.

I went and tried this based on comments from fatwallet. Now after reading comments here plus doing a bit of googling right now, I have come up with the conclusion that something might not be right. I apologise in advance as I should of done this in the first place. My intentions was good, not bad so sorry.

People read this. I googled the phone number and looks like a dodgy outfit to me

Now they might be giving away free stuff but there has to be a catch somewhere I reckon.

After clicking the download link you get directed to the site majorgeeks.com. I checked out the 'About' link on the site and found this

successfulsoftware.net/2007/08/16/the-software-awards-scam/

This has been written by the site owner so I dont get why there hosting software with fake awards.

standard email I am sending out to all

Regarding the thread on this
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/567145/dvdfast-dvd-ripper-pro-free

I did some googling and I am not 100% sure this s/w is safe to use. See my posts on page 3 or

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/567145/dvdfast-dvd-ripper-pro-free/showpost.php?p=7372387&postcount=33

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/567145/dvdfast-dvd-ripper-pro-free/showpost.php?p=7373054&postcount=35

Sorry about this but unless you are happy or feel it is safe to use it, my recommendation would be to ensure you have a software firewall to prevent unauthorised access to/from your computer as well as normal spyware checks and to uninstall this software.

I am not sure about this software and if it is dodgy, how it will be nasty. My guess is it will maybe ask for payment (also based on what actres said). What I read is the scam used is to get money for services then do a runner.

Thought I would list down the tools I use, checkout filehippo.com for much useful stuff. All of the tools mentioned below are free (except malwarebytes), safe to use and legal (except dvddecryptor)

DVDShrink (useful for shrinking dual layer down to single layer size - http://www.dvdshrink.org/)
DVDDecryptor (though now I believe it is illegal so I should say I used to use it ;))
AutoGK (useful tool to convert dvd to avi - http://www.autogk.me.uk/)
ImgBurn (nice lightweight tool for cd/dvd burning - http://www.imgburn.com/)
CCleaner (great tool for keeping pc clean of crap, monitor startup etc etc etc http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/)
Comodo (sometimes annoying but very helpful software firewall - http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo/)

Regarding antivirus, I used to use AVG then moved onto Avast and now trying Kaspersky suite as I got it free from Barclays.
Regarding spyware, I used to use adaware, spybot but now use the best tool I have come across so far and that is Malwarebytes. This is the only s/w I have mentioned which required a fee but damn its a good tool

Hijack this - In conjunction with cleaner, use it whenever I feel something is not safe http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

**** so whats the deal here? I downloaded thislast night and installed?

See Sylars very helpful post above. Then use Add/remove programs to remove it. Then run a scan using malwarebytes.

then run a scan using a decent virus scanner (e.g. AVAST, Avira, kaspersky). Basically, anything top rated but NOT avg as that is useless now.

This thing genuinely killed my DVD drive yesterday.

It may be a complete coindicence but it's certainly a big one if it is.

As the OP has now stated, best to stay clear to be on the safe side.

I've now uninstalled and run a virus and spyware scan, which indicated my system was clean. Has anyone else's scan's flagged up any malware related to this software?

I ran malwarebytes scan and it was clean. Are you sure you did not have that from someone else? Im not saying that this s/w did not do it, it might of. It is just a thought.
