Just been informed by EE Customer Services (via 150) that they are currently doing a promotion where they will double your data allowance. Confirmed no catches, additional tie ins, charges, etc. I guess they are getting itchy with rival services on the horizon. Both my lines were upgrading during the call (from 1GB and 3GB to 2GB and 6GB respectively) and the new allowances are now showing on my MY EE app.

For those of you on Friends and Family offers I also explicitly confirmed it will not affect this offer.

NOTE: This was given to me as an existing 4G EE customer. I've been with them since last month, when I transferred from TMO, I'm not sure if this is pertinent. However, the way I understood the CS agent this is a general offer, not specific per customer.

Background:

I joined EE last month and just called CS to double check the "call abroad" add on was truly free without any tie inns/etc. While I was on the phone I thought I'd check I was receiving any other freebies I was entitled to (as I couldn't understand why that add on wasn't on my account by default if it was standalone/free). At this point the CS agent told me about the double data allowance promotion.

I would also check if you are entitled to the free "call abroad" add on as it significantly drops international call charges for many destinations. For example EU landline call charges drop from £1/min to £0.05/min in many cases. The following doc gives full details of call costs with and without the add on (page 6 & 7 respectively):

http://e-gain.s3.amazonaws.com/external/content/Ts%20and%20Cs/EE_PAYM_NonStd_2012%20v8.pdf

Also for my fellow Londoners, don't forget to register for free wifi on the underground:

http://help.ee.co.uk/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1016&PARTITION_ID=1&secureFlag=false&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&USERTYPE=1&ARTICLE_ID=341401

Hope this helps those of you on EE already. I assume freebies was right place for it.

I think he means 1GB to 2GB AND 3GB to 6GB..

I believe this promotion is specifically for people that transfered from Orange or T-Mobile to EE (4GEE) not for existing customers who are already on 4GEE. I could be wrong though
#6
Thanks OP
#7
Agree - definitely NOT for existing 4GEE customers - confirmed by EE
#8
I just tried this. Asked about any promotions on doubling data for existing customers. Answer was no, only new customers. Offered to double my data 3gb to 6gb for 3 months though as a goodwill gesture so result!

Yes exactly, I had two accounts so:

Account with 1GB went to 2GB
Account 3GB went to 6GB

As per my description I am an existing customer, joined end of last month. I did however, transfer from T-Mobile, so will update the description incase that's relevant. Sorry if it doesn't work for all of you, but was told its a general promotion, with no conditions/etc and not customer specific.

thanks very much op! :)

Thanks.

Not sure, I only spoke to EE. If its free to call CS on your contract guess it doesn't hurt to ask. :D

I did ask several times, but was assured there weren't. Either way I'm just a month into a 24 month contract anyway, so not much more they can tie me into :D

I can confirm this offer also applies on the 500mb plan at £36 which now gives you 1gb data. I was a tmobile customer and upgraded to 4gee plan in store and got the HTC one sv for free
#21
I also checked that there was no tie ins at all! :) got a conformation text soon after.

Also for those that want to know i am currently on a £20.50 plan, 100mins, unl texts, 500mb of net.
I also get U24 so an extra 1gig of data and unlimited calls and texts to orange customers.

None of this affected the free data

I would be wary of the "no catches" bit... I was on a £36 18 month contract with T-Mobile when they brought out the Full Monty deal. I called customer service to see if I could transfer over, as it is the same price, but a much better deal. They said "no problem!" During the conversation, I asked 3 times "will it make any changes to the length of my contract, as I'm on an 18 month contract?" They said "no, the only thing that will change are your allowances - your contract will still end in June 2013."

Just before Christmas I tried sending a message to see when I could upgrade (I was just wondering) and the reply I got was" November 2013"! I called customer service to query this, and they told me that the Full Monty was only available on 24 month contracts, and that I would have been told that before I changed over. When I told them that I had been told very clearly that it would not extend my contract, their response was simply "no, you are wrong..." :-(

good for EE customers so heat added but i'll stick with my unlimited data package on 3 and before you say they have crap customer services and 3 isn't 4g yeah thats right it's not but 4g won't be hitting rural areas for quite some time we've only just got adsl lol

Then you should have gone back to them and said right i'm ending my contract as I believe i was miss sold they would have to investigate the audio recordings and account notes and if you were miss-sold you would have the right to leave with no penalty charges consumer rules and regs are their to protect us for a reason

They told me no such offer ?

Is this just for 4G?

Is this just for 4G?

i think it might be. i just phoned and was told there isn't a deal for normal t-mobile customers, only 4G EE.

i got it on orange 3G

I also got it for 3G.
I'm on the iPhone 36 contract. The bloke said Orange (EE?) have changed the talkplans in the last few days. So whereas the 36 plan used to be 600 minutes and 500mb, the new one is Unlimited minutes and 1GB data - So they just added that on to my plan no problem.
Thanks so much for sharing this OP, as I was about to buy a dongle to use at work (they have no wifi...) but I can now tether my phone to the macbook!
#30
and?

The One Plan (3) - unlimited. ya can't double that.

4g on 3 is the same rate as 3g, if the phone can handle it & the signal is there, you get 4g. Not raped twice the price for a fraction of the allowance.
#31
I'm on regular tmobile with an iphone 5 contract.

I currently get 750mb downloads but unlimited browsing can I get this offer?
#32
@andiejn 3 haven't launched a 4g service yet but from what press releases have been released the speed will increase on 2 different bandwidths enabling faster national coverage (hopefully) and that the 3 4g service will retail for as much as the present 3G packages and the unlimited data will continue going by the press releases which are free to read upon the 3 website

But still a good deal for EE customers

That's wonderful for you, but it appears you failed to notice this is for existing EE customers. Therefore, unless you are going to suggest a way for those customers to exit those contracts and switch to 3, your albeit wonderful post about the 3 tariff is somewhat redundant here :/

What do I need to ring up and say? I am an Orange 3G customer since November. Thanks.
#35

Just call them and say a friend got their data doubled as EE are currently doing an offer for existing customers. Then cross your fingers as some haven't received the offer. From this thread it appears its not just EE 4G customers who are elligible as Orange customer has reported receiving it aswell. Either way its worth a try :D
