Got a letter through this morning informing me that I can get £12 credited to my Quantum Gas Card for free to use in my prepay gas meter.

The letter includes a unique barcode that you have to take to any Post Office where it will be scanned and £12 added to your quantum card.

If you use Atlantic for your Gas supply you should receive this soon, otherwise call 0800 980 3294 for assistance.

This expires on the 28th February 2010.

Good of you to let people know but not really a deal as only people with a prepay meter will get the letter from Scottish Hydro (as i did today) or Atlantic like you.

Hope people will use it . I've no water but my GCH is ok to be running and going to have to leave it on all weekend when not here so that 12 quids gettin absorbed by that.

Have heard a rumour that if you are a customer of either of the companies that are paying these £12 credits and you do not have a prepayment meter but pay by other means; if you ring up to complain about this they will credit your account with £12. Not sure how true this is. Maybe someone can clarify.

I'm making the trek to the village post office in a bit to cash this one in.

Curiously, this gives an indication of the kind of profits that the utilities companies make if they can shell out £12 to their entire prepay customer base!

Good luck to those enquiring without meters.

Probably last about a day in this place though.

We get a months payment on our monthly payments each year for gas and electricity from Atlantic...

Thanks for the heads up about this. I am with Southern Electric and had a letter through from them today but I just chucked it on the table and didn't bother to open it as I thought it was just the usual rubbish about taking out a service contract.

Thanks to this post I now find I am £12 better off. :-D

Not true I'm afraid. This £12 covers the standing charge paid by prepayment customers for the winter period. Direct debit customers don't get hit with this standing charge, so they're not owed anything.

The £12 is being paid to all gas prepayment customers under any of the SSE brands (Swalec, Scottish Hydro, Southern Electric).

if its as you ssay then why they charge the standing charge in the 1st place :? It is not charged when dd is used as thats the benefit of paying upfront, so if they are refunding the standing charge then there is little point in charging it
