You are supposed to have a child in tow, not sure how you would get round it.
#12

We are in the same boat, as I go away on the 19th and am wondering how long it would take them to despatch the card, or could I pick it up at the station or something?

fat cats are adorable. by using the train network you support excessive bonuses and fat cats skimming the cream. 4% average ticket price rise per year thanks !

I don't normally travel by train, although I have that option.

What do I have to do with this card (assuming I am going to receive one)?

Thanks.

When you buy your tickets either at a machine or online you will have the option of choosing a family railcard ticket at the reduced price, or show it the the person at the counter. If you buy at a machine or online make sure you have the card with you when they inspect the ticket, otherwise you could get fined.

So this railcard that I'm getting online is going to entitle me to.... free travel using the train?
(or a discounted rate?)

Are there any restrictions, other than peak times?

Thanks.

Brill find been waiting for this .. heat added :) thanks x

So you have to have a child with you? For example, if I get this and travel to Manchester with a railcard, I would be able to get the discount rate for myself?
#32
So would this be useful for just a young person? As my GF wants a railcard, but if she can use this, it will help out greatly! Any advice? rep will be given!

Thank you, good find :)

The form to be filled for this offer has provision of only a single card holder.

However, the F&F rail-cards I have had in the past (purchased from the ticket window) have had provision for adding two names - for joint holding of the card. It used to come handy when only one of us (me and my wife) had to travel with the child.

Can I do the same when I go ahead and purchase the half-price yearly rail-card in July.

YES!..I did this last year and added my friends name (as other half is always with me and kids if we travel) so we split the cost and we used it when needed.
you could always get 2 free cards for the trial period one in each name.

Thanx op Great find! Id been looking at getting another card this week as need it for Thursday...just hope it arrives in time !!

thanks

Many thanks. I knew that this was likely to appear soon and it is a heck of a good deal for anyone travelling with an under-16 yr old. Very lucky this year as the card runs out a few days after our holiday in Britain ends.

To clear up a couple of questions asked;

The Terms and Conditions state that you have to have at least one child with you. (I'm assuming you could always pay for a child you didn't have but that would defeat the purpose of the discount)

It is for a discount not a free fare.

Good find for those with sprogs!
