im guessing this wont be for everyone but its fantastic if you can make it!

i will be going to see the gallows and my friends band! big mix of music.

Last summer, the city was buzzing, we had a legendary party, and there was so much love in Sheffield that crime rates actually fell. This year, it’s going to be even bigger and better.

Tramlines is put on by Sheffield’s music community – with the enthusiastic support of our city council. Our aim is to let each venue, promoter and musician, express themselves and showcase what they do best. The whole festival is free. There is music and entertainment everywhere. So why not experiment a bit? Wander into a venue you’ve never visited before. See someone you’ve never heard of. Do something you wouldn’t normally do. You have nothing to lose. This year, the booking team have excelled themselves. There’s great headliners, a mind blowing roster of local artists, and some really quirky treats at over 50 venues around town.

With so much interest in Tramlines, we’re expecting thousands of you to turn up for the party. There’ll be times when some arenas or venues will be full. At these times, we’ll need your cooperation. Please show the festival and your fellow revellers as much respect as you can, keep smiling, queue nicely and leave your rubbish in the bins. We want you and the festival to come back next year.

Enjoy Tramlines, and enjoy Sheffield. We hope this festival gives you a glimpse of what our beautiful city has to offer for the other 51 weeks of the year. Have fun!

If you want to actually get in to the main event on Saturday, You will have to queue from early in the morning. It's hosted on a very small site, just outside the city centre, the capacity is about 8000 and there is a strict one person out one person in entry system. Last year’s smaller event was attended by over 35,000 people and this year is likely to be even busier.

I Live quite close to Sheffield but until they host something like Leeds Party In The Park: http://www.radioaire.co.uk/Article.asp?id=1725915, I will continue to go to Leeds for Free concerts (and maybe if the City Council did something like Leeds Party/proms In The Park, They may have actually won the chance to be UK city of culture).

its in different venues around Sheffield. also the main stage is on a bigish field (Devonshire green) and the new music stage is outside the city hall which is also quite a big area.

They are indeed! Last time I saw them was at Kasbah Coventry earlier in the year, I had Frank standing on my shoulders for a whole song on the front row, then there was a major crowd crush against the barrier, I drove home in pain after the show, woke up went to A&E and had cracked 3 ribs... Great night!

You should take your boy! Just stand a safe distance away from the madness :)

This isn't just a party in the park, this is a music event that involves every main live music playing venue in Sheffield! Lots of open air areas and lots of pubs & clubs, and tonnes of bands playing lots of different styles of music all across the day and into the early hours.

For free!!!!

Will be bigger than last year, so I'm already looking forward to next year! :D

Great line-up, gutted I'm out the city this weekend...

I'd recommend seeing Bromheads, They're playing twice, once headlining at DQ and once on the 'busking bus' that will be driving round shef saturday and sunday afternoon.
