I wonder if that means customers who were paying for 4g can negotiate a different contract with it now being included for all...

Its always been free for all customers since first announced back last December but only limited to few cities at present. Anyway if its o2 it will be awful as they have no idea about data,if you want good data three are the daddies, even there 3g is faster than EE 4g from tests ive done, when three unleash full 4g everywhere you will see true 4g data and they will kill any other network dead for speeds. THREE HSPA+(basically 4g) speed on my s4 is 21mb and 4g on three tested in luton was 35mb an same 4g test on EE same time was barely 10mb.

I get really good 4g on o2 in several areas - usually averaging between 21-27mb but it needs to be rolled out in more towns to make it worthwhile
#4
is this all areas or just some
#5
I'm with Tesco who use the O2 network and I thought I heard something about "Free 4G" on the TV.
Bet there is a catch though!:3
#6
Been on before huge thread about it lol...

It's not a free upgrade to all o2 customers. I had this hassle before in the other topic about it. They will only upgrade you if your postcode is (or will be) in a 4g area. If they have no plans for your postcode area, you will not get the upgrade.

Bit of a joke really as is usual O2 coverage is poor, for a country the size of the UK and the amount of money spent on mobile comms you would think in the 21st century you could get more than gprs in most locations but sadly unless you are in a city you can forget it, would like to have 3G.

Nothing against the post, just a bit of an off topic rant (sorry).

I'd agree with o2 coverage, been with o2 before they were o2, BT Cellnet I'm sure a few people here may remember, and I would have to say they were the best coverage that UK had to offer, now I'd have to say they aren't and that may because they haven't invested in their infrastructure in so many years.

Once out of my contract several months left I'll not be renewing with o2.

On another note, large companies no longer offer deals for customers of long term loyalty, therefore the customer will never return long term loyalty, I'd have to say this applies with probably most companies, true what they say it's a buyers market.

Agree 100% with this. Can't wait until my O2 contract runs out.
#14

Im on pay as you go. So i wont get free 4g right?

(Seems obvious but just want to make sure )

Isn't that because of the 4g chip apple used in the 5?? Not really o2's fault as such.

EE gives me 66 Mbps down and 37 Mbps up.
Can't complain :)

Just tried new area and I'm getting 38 Mbps down and 21 Mbps up.

It all comes down to the traffic on the network and mast signal strength.

completely agree, been with o 2 since bt cell net also they don't offer anything in regards to customer loyalty anymore, their coverage is awful, over the last few years my signal at home has got worse and worse, pretty sure they were working on pushing me outside since I used to be able to make calls in the front room and have gradually been pushed to the back of the house to get any sort of signal lol my contract just ran out and I signed with EE on the iPhone 5c deal posted here and it's the best move I could have made, coverage is excellent. For those waiting for O2 4g in their area I wouldn't hold your breath, someone I know signed up with a 4g deal with them over 12 months ago on a 2 yr deal and was told it would be coming within 6 months, still nothing anywhere near this area, as said in other posts it's all in the major cities, shame really as O2 used to be a great service

I anyone experiencing huge data consumption. I have 2Gb data for a month and since activating 4g for free with O2 I am experiencing huge data consumption. Last month I used 1.8 gb in 15 days and now in my new month I have already used 500 mb in 5 days!!!!
#20
I have no issue with O2 where I live. In fact I am one of a minority as in I can always get a signal/reception at work but all those on EE have to go outside the back of the building. Maybe it's all down to where you are situated and personal opinion but I am looking forward to free 4G. Thanks for the info. :)

Appears to be a bit of a scam by O2!! Apparently I do not have a 4G tariff (despite being told I can have access to 4G at no cost via the text they sent). SO I go through the 4G set up process and I am advised that I need to change my tariff. I can have one that is 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data for £16 a month (pretty much what I'm paying now). This is actually a downgrade from what I get now as I have unlimited data.

If I want anything near to what I have now I would have to pay an additional £10 a month to get access to 4gb of data (which is still not unlimited is it!!).

So, 4G "at no extra cost" is a complete and utter lie by O2. I have given them the oppotunity to comment on this before I refer it to trading standards, but doubt they care or will bother to respond.

Come on Talk Talk get your act together.
#23
I will write to trading standards too.

Finally caught up with Three 8)

O2 are currently responding to me on Facebook. It's under their latest post with a photo of a phone with a paper bag on. They're currently asking me how much data I use, which I have stated does not matter as I should not have to downgrade under the wording of there offer.
#26
O2 completely missed the point of my complaint and told me I could sign up to a £16 a month tariff and receive 1GB a month data!!
#27
Site seems to be down :(
#28
Yeah they are often doing such things now the customer service is getting worse. All they are trying to do is make a sale on every call. I called them to complain about data leakage and the guy on the other line tried to sell me a dongle!!
#29
They're trying to claim the terms and conditions said that it is only available to compatible tariffs. With this terms and conditions not viewable in any way, I have told them that they are therefore null and void and cannot be used as there excuse not to provide the "no cost" 4G access they claimed I was getting from today in the text they sent.

my contract is up in november with o2 and i will not be renewing as i was told i would get 4g on my iphone 5 when it came into my area and then i was told i wouldnt so basically they lied to me
#31
And they told me the future is Orange! Don't think I'll be getting "free" 4G any time soon!
#32
O2 sort your edge signal out and 3g signal before you start with 4G
#33
Joined o2 last week and cancelling on monday. Signal is terrible. Nothing in my house and poor data most places. Not even h let alone 4g. Had no issues with tmobileso swapping back to them.

Told me that too, I have now payed off the remainder of my Refresh contract, for similar reasons inc patchy coverage where it used to be good, have now went with 3 on their One Plan.

My account states unlimited data, I don't really care if there is a fair usage policy or not, they currently can't remove the unlimited data unless I make a change. All I want is the 4G they said they had given me with no loss of data (if the fair usage on unlimited is really 4GB, then that is the minimum data contract I will accept being transferred to if they really do insist I have to drop the "unlimited" part. What I will not do is downgrade to the 1GB per month that they want me to downgrade to to get the "no cost" 4G they claim they have given me!!).
