Not as good as Facebook IMHO, I signed up before and tried to contact some of my relatives but heard nothing back. then again it's free, so heat added.

you're joking right? this helps you research your family tree, not just a branch, lets you research generations back, it's not to see what your 2nd cousin had for lunch yesterday

I found some relatives from 1800's, but couldn't find my own birth or my father's using this site, and I'm sure I exist - just don't place too much reliance on it, and only use it when free is my motto.
When they actually have details of me and other family that I have birth certificates for, then I might pay.

I had an existing account and have just logged in.
It has not asked me for card details and says it is completely free for 3 days.
I'm happy to get searching for free!

Do you own research and dont rely on other peoples family trees that merge with your own.
I have noticed some people paste incorrect research into their tree and sombody copies it and so on. By all means use other peoples research as its can be a real time saver and get you past tricky spots ..but you need to check it yourself if you want it to be correct.

Totally agree, to research properly, not only do you need information from websites like Ancestry/Findmypast, etc, you also need to verify the information, which usually means buying BMD certificates.

Once incorrect information is posted on family trees some people think it is gospel and copy it without checking and perpetuate incorrect information.

Just searched for my Nan with following results:
BIRTH: 28 Oct 1988
DEATH: Mar 1977
Hmmm...maybe she drove a DeLorean.

When you look at the records the top search results are for other peoples family treess which dont appear to be free with this trial. (

are you sure you're not tangled up in a "Truman show"-type situation?

This is by far the best website for research! Why the hell do you need to find yourself? Go back from your Grandparents and if you get hooked buy the Platinum edition of Family Tree Maker for around £30 which gives you 6 months access included.

All they are doing is gathering information about you and your family that they may not already have and the worst part about it is that they get to gather your credit card details as well.

If it were really FREE then they should NOT insist on card details. They want these details hoping you forget about it and fail to cancel .

And of course this is ANOTHER foreign company employed by the British government and they are working for themselves gathering information for their own benefit.

What is wrong with our inept politicians that all they seem interested in is making foreigners rich at the expense of British taxpayers?
