I believe ppl should use this deal carefully, let it get who are severely need it.
Do you dread the daily chore of having to stop what you are doing and find a suitable surface to set up your blood glucose meter and strips to test with your conventional strip-based blood glucose meter?

Do you wish it was faster, easier and more discreet to test your blood glucose compared to when you test with a conventional strip-based meter, for example when you are in a restaurant or at the cinema?

Dont you get a Diabetes machine free on NHS if you have Diabetes?
#4
I did this last time and it was delivered after a fortnight. I have to check my blood sugar daily and medicate it which is what I assume made me eligible.

Does someone need to be at home to sign for it or fits through the post box?

I signed up for this for boyf (who is type 1) months ago and he really likes this machine. (It uses "cassettes" of 50 slides and six built-in lancets). He was using a battered thing he'd had for years (I'd have to ask him which model), what's useful about this one is it's all contained in one unit. You can charge it via MicroUSB cable.

You have to be at home to sign for it, too big for the letterbox.

Abbott will send you a free meter and update them as they bring them out, test strips are FOC on prescription if you are type 1 diabetic (not sure about type 2)

This deal is of absolutely no use to me, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Not applying for one, but heat added! ;)
#19
How big is the machine, are the slides expensive
#20
Heat added on this thanks
#21
Check with your Doctor's surgery as our surgery will only prescribe for the meter they issue to diabetics and the cassettes are quite expensive to buy over the counter, Boots are charging £27.99 and Amazon about £21

Type 2 get them on prescription if they are on medication/insulin

You get them on the NHS if you are at risk of hypoglycaemia so need to be able to monitor your own blood to know if you need to treat it. So that means anyone who is type 1, as they need to take insulin, and those who are type 2 who need to take insulin or medication to increase insulin production. If you are only on Metformin, the standard med that most type 2s take, you do not get one as it does not increase insulin so there is no risk of hypos.

For all diabetics though the three-month average HbA1c level, which requires a professional blood test, is what is used to see whether their levels are under control. These home tests which are just a snapshot of a particular moment.

I was given a machine after diagnosis as type 2 because my diet and weight were fine so instead need to take meds to help insulin production. The strips and lancets are also provided on a free prescription.

my mum's been really high and had uncontrolled diabetes.
now she is insulin and victosa plus another 6 tablets.
victosa helps to reduce weight and control sugars.
also now she is on weight reduction tablets and her super is average 7. as before was 12. This is average from blood tests but when she did it with a meter last year they were ranging from 12-23 as now they are 4-12.

diabetes are really bad for health too because she has had many laser treatments done but now hopefully with these new medication she will be fine .

#36
does anyone get the lancets and cassettes on prescription? i test regularly so wouldn't be able to afford to buy the cassettes myself
#37
I filled out the whole form and was told I was not eligible.
It is only available to those who are on insulin, not tablets.
#38
They make there money from the test strips/cassette as they cost about £30 for 50 that's why they give these away for free all the time.
