As mentioned on BBC.co.uk:

On Friday 27th April will not be giving out any normal, "disposable" carrier bags. Instead, they will be giving out the Free Bags for Life.

It is estimated they will give out the same amount in one day, as they would sell in 2 years!!!

Maybe an excuse to visit Sainsburys ...

all supermarkets seem to be doing this, in some counties they dont give out plastic bags, they should do the same here.

I agree, I wish sainsburys would still charge something to encourage people to use em again. Otherwise I worry people will just think "ooh, stronger bag" and then chuck it away as normal. (I realise they can't to this as it was cause right who-haw). Still, good offer if you are doing your shopping anyway and will use it again.

wish it was today they were giving them away and i could put all the 1p easter eggs in it!

Must get some to keep in the car so I can use them to pick up Tesco green club card points. Or I could just carry on grabbing old carriers out of the recycling bin on the way in.

already got an old one and it has cost me thousands

I shop on line with tesco, and always give my bags back to driver for recycling, I think I ought to get green clubcard points too!!
When it is delivered they totally waste bags though, today I must have had 15 bags, some with just one item in!!

Are sainsbury's still selling cadbury's eggs?
#8
think this is good if only people did reuse them:?

I did a bag pack with my local charity/youth activity on Saturday. Customers have their own individual ways of wanting things packed etc, some things not in with certain items.

Therefore, it's just easier to put everything in individual bags and if it means one item per bag - then we just do it.

Need the donations at the end of the day - don't want to wind the customers up!

hi sanmarco5.

I shop online with tesco too, but on the checkout page I have the option of having my shopping delivered with or without carrier bags, don't you?

I get several points added to my card if I choose not to have bags.

A very few items are delivered in carrier bags which I keep and give back to the driver the next time.

We give the carrier bags back to the driver and get 1 green point for every bag of bags we give them - not really fair since it should be for each bag, but better than nothing

Yes they are for 9p an egg or packs of 8 for 69p in my local store.

LOL Its taking time quite a while to get rid of the easter clearance even though its 75% off for a while now

Why dont they go back to what they used to do in my parents day and leave the boxes from the warehouse for people with cars to use, we can recycle them now unlike years ago :)

Same here...and it drives me mad. I've asked the drivers to register complaints about the excessive number of bags used, often one per item, and I've emailed tesco customer services about it and been totally fobbed off. Didn't know there was an option to go without carrier bags at checkout though, must look carefully for that next time.

I have complained to Sainsbury's (online delivery) about their "1 item per bag" policy, and also got fobbed off - makes me mad as I don't use plastic bags at all in the shop (only my bags for life that live in the boot). They told me they recycle bags, as if that is the answer, rather than not using them at all!
I shall complain again now and tell them tescos give the option of no bags! Maybe THAT will help them reconsider :x

Voted hot as these bags are so well made - not to mention that as a country we put 10 BILLION BAGS into the ground every year. :x
