I was looking at website of British Summer Time Hyde Park event sponsored by Barclays and found this. The application is intended for this event ending on 13 July but actually the wristband will work further beyond wherever you see the contactless symbol.

From what I understand this wristband is like prepaid contactless payment gadget where you'll need to top up before you can use it to pay for transactions. Basically like contactless card. I copy paste T&Cs below. Also you can get offers on stuff you pay using the band such as 10% off at Hotel Chocolate and 15% off at Ryman & Robert Dyas. Full offers here https://bpayband.co.uk/Offers.aspx.

And its not illegal to wear it without credit in it.

The direct link on the title brings you to the application form for BLACK bands which affiliate with BST Hyde Park event. But again, the website clearly says that you can use it beyond the event. For PINK bands affiliating with London Pride event please go here https://www.bpayband.co.uk/Pride/RegistrationPayBand.aspx.

Make sure you open either the black or pink form at one time. Don't open both at the same time.

I just applied for one myself today so I cant give testimony.

------------------------

Summary terms and conditions

1.1. Your bPay band can be used to make contactless transactions up to £20 where you see the contactless symbol. It cannot be used for gambling transactions.

1.2. Your bPay band will expire on 30 June 2015. Any unspent money will be returned to you after this date unless you ask us for it earlier.

1.3. You can only spend money which you have already added to your Account.

1.4. You will need to use a Visa or MasterCard® credit or debit card to add money to your bPay band Account.

1.5. The minimum initial amount you can add to your Account is £25. The minimum amount that you can add thereafter is £5. The maximum amount you can add at any time is £100. The maximum balance you can have at any time is £200. You can reload your account (including by auto top up) up to 4 times, with up to £400, a day.

1.6. You can set up an auto top up facility, so that if your balance drops below £20, we will automatically add an amount of up to £100 from your card to your Account, subject to the daily maximums above.

1.7. You should read the How We Use Your Information section of the terms and conditions. By accepting them you are agreeing to us processing your personal data in the ways we set out. We will use your personal data to manage your account, for statistical analysis and behaviour scoring, to develop our services to you and others, and marketing if you consented. We will keep your personal data confidential but may share it with the Barclays Group, people providing services to you or us, or with people we are providing services in conjunction with, always ensuring they keep it confidential too.

1.8. If you change your mind you can cancel this agreement in the 14 days after you register by calling us on 0333 202 2065. We will return any unspent money on your account.

MY COMFORT & EXPERIENCE REVIEW:

COMFORT & CONVENIENCE
I just wanted to review my comfort and experience with the Barclays bPay band, so far I have become used to wearing the wristband and after just two days out of the week or so that I have been using it, the silicone is more flexible and really moulds to your wrist, I forget sometimes its on my wrist. I personally am using the wristband as emergency cash or to buy small items such as super cold bottles of water because of the hot summer we are having (need the water fast), I find its convenient to use the wristband as I don't want to be rummaging through my wallet to find the correct card or waste any of the cashiers time counting loose coins.

HYGIENE
I also want to point out that using the wristband is much more hygienic as your not typing in your PIN on a machine that has been used by so many people and honestly you don't know where their fingers have been, plus reducing the need of getting dirty coin smell on your hands. Hygiene is important so this wristband already has made a huge difference in that department.

WANT MORE MONEY
Topping the wristband up isn't a hassle as long as you have a Wi-Fi (Home/Free Hot-Spots) or mobile data connection you can log into https://bpayband.co.uk/ as its both mobile and desktop/laptop friendly as the site is cross compatible.

RAISE AWARENESS
When you are paying for items, make sure you let the cashier know you are paying with your contactless wristband, you do get some odd faces but as most don't know about these bands it just helps raise awareness of them, so they can look out for them in the future.

TRACK YOUR MONEY
Finally, the last piece of advice for band wearers and a heads up for those still waiting for their bPay bands, at the end of the day log onto your account and review your My activity section to make sure everything is OK with your money, if there are any problems call the free number 0333 202 2065 and tell the representative your issues.

If anyone want's to know more please message me, so far I've had no issues or problems with my bPay band and I will continue to use it.

Rikmano :D

Hi Dealfella,

I have one of these, I got it last week. Heres the overall website address https://bpayband.co.uk/default.aspx

It can be used at any contactless merchant e.g. M&S, Co-op, McDonalds, Tfl

The wristband isn't connected to your Barclaycard so could use any credit or debit card to top up. As its a contactless payment single transaction spend is limited to £20 - thanks

Yeah the site is a bit flakey but register you it does so we will await the arrival of the bands. Seems like a stellar idea. I never carry cash and often leave my wallet in my car at work. Being able to always have say £20 on it for when I'm out and about just to grab something to eat or a quick coffee is brilliant with no chance it might end up like so many notes and put through the wash ha
#15
How long do these take to arrive? Thanks by the way OP, saw an article which mentioned bPay ages ago but couldn't find out how to get one :) Heat added. Can imagine that I will get a few weird stares from my people when I tap my wrist on a contactless reader, but ah well!

That's a shame!

They are probably testing it initially, if things go south.. they could just say it was a intended for the festival only :P

I got one for the concert last weekend so it'll arrive before the date of your concert which you specify when you register for it, mine literally arrived the day before. No funny looks from all stalls at the venue and can get in fast track with it. Also found that just a few places at venue didn't accept it but most did so do carry some cash in case. Very easy to set up and use but bit difficult to put on.
#21
Agreed that it will be tested at these events and after June next year if its still in use by those that ordered then they will probably roll this out full scale. We are the Guinea pigs in this but pretty cool to use.

As for security unless you stand against the creepy guy with a backpack then all the data obtained by eavesdropping on payments at a reader would only have the card number and expiry which is not enough to make a purchase they would req CVC as well.

Also if you have verified by visa or MasterCard secure code set up then they ain't using this info to make any purchases online

Although the sort of contactless card reader built by the University of Surrey might be able to interrogate a card, any data obtained would be limited to the card number and expiry date that can be seen on the front of the card," the spokesman said.

I love the idea of using things like this and doing away with physical cash it is the future.

That happened to me when I put my mother's maiden FULL name (two words). I changed it to only her last name (one word) then it went well

If it says error there's a chance it actually did go through, check email/text. Happened for 2 bands.

They have already sorted this - I read before that it won't scan if you accidentally try to scan two cards at the same time and it actually happened to me when I scanned my Oyster card in my phone case whilst forgetting that I had my barclaycard sticker on my phone. The machine just beeped an error.

I wonder if you could you cut the chip out of this band and attach it to the back of your usual wristwatch or strap?
