Now, don't be fooled by the name. This is no run-of-the-mill, ordinary garlic. Black garlic is unlike anything you've ever tried before and we want to make sure that everyone is lucky enough to try it.

We would like to give you the opportunity to try our free sample.

Simply provide your contact details below and a FREE sample will be sent to you in the post.

ordered out of curiousity

Me too.

We use garlic a lot in our cooking.

Will be interested to see what this is all about.

Voted hot. Think it's genius!! someone is selling rotten garlic!!

Described on the website as "aged natural" garlic!!

I'm sorry BUT ( and please will all the chemists/ scientists correct me if I'm wrong) but FERMENTED garlic...... Is that not what you get if you bury NORMAL garlic in the garden and dig it up 3 weeks later???!!!

Have ordered purely out of curiosity! Thanks OP. Rep added - what exactly were you 'googling' when you came accross this????

If you leave garlic for 3 weeks in the ground, it's only going to sprout and grow a green stem, not turn black. I wonder how they achieve that.

What an odd little website though... You can get free samples but there's no way to order the advertised products! I understand it's in construction but surely if they're giving samples away, they must be expecting some of us to order more afterwards? The phone number in the contact page is a mobile one...
Oh well, I know what happened to the cat, but going to try out of curiosity. I love garlic anyway!

[Edit]
Found some more actually, there is an American version already where I found this:
In fact, there’s only one ingredient—garlic. It’s aged for a month in a special fermentation process under high heat, where it develops its darker color, softer texture, and sweeter taste.

BlackGarlic.com (the OP refers to the .co.uk version)

It is apparently an old traditional Japanese, Chinese and Korean preparation. I found several pages mentioning the process but they all boil down to this:
Ordinary garlic is placed in earthenware jugs in a cool environment, such as a cave. The garlic is left to age for several months. No bacteria is added. The result is a simple food with a complex flavor. (TheCooksKitchen.net)

Let's see what we get, but I'll definitely give that a try. I suppose it's a natural process, garlic is usually rich in starch that here transforms gradually in sugar, that's technically possible. Anyway, let's not break the magic...

I doubt we'll receive anything though, I can't see someone importing and running their business from a mobile phone post away the thousands of samples for requests that HUKD and the like will most likely generate.
Voted hot for the fun side of it and because I learnt something interesting!

Glad our communication is over the internet: just imagine the atmosphere if we communicated at the water cooler or photocopier - you could cut the atmosphere with a sharp kitchen knife!

Brings a new meaning to GB.

Does it come with a free pack of Polos? :whistling:

You can even buy garlic juice! That's a new one on me????
Rep for an interesting find OP!
#26
Given that most of the natural wonder-super-anti-oxidant mega-greatness of garlic is lost during the cooking process, it would be interesting to see if this truly is more edible in it's raw form.

Looking forward to it !
