Free Brake / Battery / Exhaust Check @ Kwik-Fit

Ok - I know I am gonna get flamed because people hate kwik fits, but I just bought my first car (yay!) and I am a bit concerned about the breaks not being sharp. I asked my burly think-they-know-everything-about-cars male dude friends and getting so much advice I was getting confused. I googled and found kwik fits offer a free brake, battery and exhaust check.

I have booked myself in for next week and have NO intention of getting anything done unless I can't get it done anywhere else cheaper.

Brake one here:http://www.kwik-fit.com/brakes-appointment.asp

Exhaust one here: http://www.kwik-fit.com/exhaust-appointment.asp

Battery Check here: http://www.kwik-fit.com/your-battery-check.asp

*******************

I am fully expecting to get cold back even though its free, but wanted to pass it on just in case

never trust them

havent they always offered free checks? as a reason to talk you into uneccesary work?

oh and fyi op-you say you have no intention of getting any work done-do you know how often kwik fit have told people that their brakes/tyres are "illegal" and they wont let them drive the car away in that condition? they do it all the time-they are thieves and conmen-if you have no intention of letting them do anything, why even bother going?

find a good reccomended local mechanic for all your needs-everyone in kwik fit should be wearing a mask!

Kwik fit are ok for tyres. Not the cheapest but a good tyre service. I have used them for exhausts - just a basic exhaust. Though I wouldn't go there for anything more complicated.
#5
hmmm not quite a freebie cos its going to cost you at some point !

Yea u now made them look like the winkers they are;)

Only used them once for a service. They really can only do basic things. Couldn't even change a fuse! They tried to over charge me too. "Forgot" to knock off advertised discount, and charged for some things twice (as part of the service and as extras). Would never use them again. Cowboy amateurs.

i know someone who works for them so im sorted LOL never get ripped off coz even he doesnt send ppl to other kwik fit garages lol

I've been to two Kwik fits, once my exhaust was very noisy, they fixed it (FREE, tighten a bolt or something).

then last winter, heard a scraping noise coming from the brakes, thinking I'd need new pads/disc, but all it was was a bit of grit from the snow salt (granted still cost me £20) but never had a problem with them.

BTW these were Yorkgate (Belfast) and Glengormely (norn iron) if anyone's interested.

though I have heard bad reports from others and no I dont work for them (wouldnt know where to start on a car, but give me a computer thats a diff story :) )

i will agree with you there i try to avoid them at all cost three times i have had to go to them not my choice as i have a mobility car and we must go to kwik fit. my first experience was twice when i got my first car once in the first year and again in the third year due to having punctures both times i got a nail in my tyres they said i needed a new tyre and had to fit a new one . so when the time came for its m.o.t. the car failed due to the wrong tyres being fitted that is the experts for you . so this year same again brand new car got a nail in the tyre same guff again you need a new tyre sir was the reply @ £165 as it being mobility i have no say in the matter what a bloody rip off. these people are only salesmen the amount of folks that are getting ripped off by these cowboys is horendous so my advice is keep away from them as there plenty of genuine tyre people out there just think of all those women who go in to them and get conned famous words "madam you need a new set of shock absorbers just look at the oil leak you have" but they for got to tell her that their fingers were dipped in oil first. and the reasons that i know so much about the tyre industry that was my job a tyre inspector and vulcunisor. so beware think before you go near them

I took my car in a couple of years back for some new tyres, they came back to me and telled me i needed new brakes and disks and that they were that low that they couldnt let me back on the road and refused to let me out..i telled them if they didnt that i would phone the police, they soon let me go, they quoted me £180..for the brakes, i later had them done months and months later, pads were £15,got fitted for £20 at a local garage...big difference, ive been told that they have to reach targets for each store dont know if this is true or not...
#18
Kwik fit will allways find something wrong with your car that they can sell you while doing these free inpections
#19
Ah, well now you see. You can't get the parts these days. It looks like this car has been parked in a field for months. Ah yes we can fix it, no problem. Leave it with us a few days and we'll get it done.

:( This is *exactly* what my local KwikFit told me last month before extracting £188 from me for front brakes. They wanted more for the back ones but I couldn't afford it and said I would bring it back next month. But I think I will be going elsewhere in future... :|

May I ask which branch of KwikFit that was?

winkers :(

my advice: find 1 good mechanic and stick with him/her for life.
Every garage i've ever been to i am suspicious of. I REALLY hate it when they say "leave it with us overnight(so we can really rack up your bill and pretend we've really fixed every thing on your beloved motor)"
#24
They can see you coming :p Please dont do it! Listen to these people!
banned#25
Lol not hard to do yourself, only time my car gies near a garage is when there is a mechanical problem with the engine,
#26
bunch of muppets - took my car in for 2 tyres - left it with them when i went back they gave me a different key - they'd put 2 new tyres that had gone in for an air con check and hadn't touched mine. stay well away.
#27
cold fror me as free is not free when they say you need £500 of work doing when there is nothing wrong just a con to get your car there
