The Benefits of Carbolite
Different sugars have different effects on the blood sugar levels. The lower the value on the GI (Glycaemic Index), the less effect it has on a person's blood sugar level. This is critical to both diabetics and low-carb dieters.
The first ingredient in a normal chocolate bar is sugar. In a Carbolite bar sugar alcohols such as Malitol are used in place of sugar. Sugar alcohols have little or no impact on blood sugar levels - this makes the Net Effective Carbs in a Carbolite product significantly lower than a regular chocolate bar. For example, the milk chocolate flavour bar has 0.2g Net Effective Carbs versus a typical chocolate bar that would have 16g in a same size bar.
The whole/skimmed milk content usually present in regular confectionary bars is replaced with a milk protein and a milk fat ingredient, therefore, removing any sugar derived from milk, i.e. lactose.
