Hey guys,

Just noticed this whilst doing an online shop. If you have loads of carrier bags lying around and keep forgetting to take them to the recyling point then all tesco home delivery drivers will take the bags for you. This my or may not get you green clubcard points but chances are if you're getting a home delivery then it's more convenient for you anyway.

T&C Here and same in link -

"Our delivery drivers will now accept all carrier bags back for recycling, not just our own. We are also pursuing a number of trials to see how we can reduce and possibly even eliminate the numbers of bags we use in a home delivery."

Hope it helps someone.

not so cold if you have loads of nasty plastic bags lying around and your nearest recycling point is not that near to you.

all councils now do collections for recycling

also this is only if you get home delivery from Tesco which costs in the first place!!

This isn't really a freebie at all, voted cold.

As has been said above by 'holly', all local Council's offer recycling collections which also includes plastic carrier bags. Though, not wanting to get into a debate, it costs more energy and resources to recycle carrier bags than produce new ones.

Ocado collect old bags too.

As far as I can remember, my local Tesco has a sort of a big bin beyond the checkouts where you can stuff your old bags 'for free'.

In my case, I always need plastic carrier bags. My council has a black bag refuse collection only and putting my domestic rubbish in plastic carrier bags is the only way to prevent spillages or rubbish trails around the garden and in the street.

Surely it's better to keep them and use them for your instore shopping for the extra clubcard/nectar points?

I'm sorry guys, but speak for yourselves! All local Councils DO NOT offer plastic carrier bag collection. In fact, in our council area we can't even recycle carrier bags at recycling points. Please think before posting. :| This makes this a GREAT idea from Tescos. Heat added :D

all the supermarkets which offer home delivery will take your bags. why not get your food delivered without bags and then you wouldnt have so many laying around.

When I have Sainsburys deliver they don't use bags - they bring the stuff in plastic crates (which they take back when you've unloaded).
Asda deliveries sometimes have one item per bag!

It's annoying because it's all dependant on the employee who actually does the shopping! They should definitely have policies regarding bags...

I did think before posting, thanks. All local councils offer recycling - which includes being able to put your carrier bags in the recycling boxes. They also ALL offer call-out collections for plastics recycling, which also covers plastic bags.

Please think before replying asking people to think before replying. :)

shame these bags fall apart before you get all the shopping home.

When I have my shop delivered from Sainsburys they always ask if i have bags to return..... been doing it here for ages.

Don't really see how this is a freebie.... and if it is it's not really a good one.

hi this is ok if you get your shopping dropped off by tesco.
but most people on hear are saying,
All local councils offer recycling - which includes being able to put your carrier bags in the recycling boxes.
this is not true as mine does not take bags and also there site does not say anything about it.
and we are not far from another council and they also do not take them.
so some councils are better then others.

Hi,

I work for Sainsbury's online groceries and we also do this service for 'free'. You just hand the bags over to the drivers that you want recycled, and when they get back to the store, they just shove it in the recycling bin in-store.

I don't know if this is new to Tesco's, but Sainsbury's have been doing this for ages, it even says this on the back of their dellivery vans.

Asda home shopping have been doing this for ages too ....... our council are dreadful at collecting recycling - last week they took half the paper out of my paper recycling bag and gave it me back as it was "the wrong type of paper" ...... and they won't even look at plastic bags !

how is this a freebie? All grocery delivery services take away carrier bags.

My council don't collect carrier bags, they also DON'T offer a 'call-out collection' for plastics.
Each council decide what they accept for recycling!

Please think before you post

And NO AGAIN!! Unless you are the Environment Minister you can't speak for the whole country on recycling!
