Sorry if it's a weird freebie, but they are free and yummy too. Just happened to drive by there today and saw the tree. Much better than paying for them in a supermarket!

So the one I saw was on St Mary's Street/ Priory Rd. It's kinda weird the name on the street said St Mary's but google maps calls it Priory Rd first. Anyway it's the patch of green where the Priory and the Gouda Way roads split, there's a bench by there too.
Basically where it says B on the map here:

Slightly strange but interesting freebie.
Got the postcode GL1 2RB.
The Sat Nav says it will take 2 hours 44 minutes to get there.
Hope there's some left when I get there.

Heat and rep added

As stupid as it sounds people have been prosecuted for theft for doing this! If the tree is on private property even if its overhanging a pubic footpath ask the owners permission and if its growing on a verge you would need the councils permission technically! A load of tosh if you ask me but just warning you, I suppose its akin to taking flowers from a council verge, even though the cherries would otherwise be wasted!!!!
The chances of this happening are very slim though its just a warning of how petty some things are enforced!

what a difference a couple of hundred miles make. my cherry tree is at least 3 weeks away from having ripe cherries, but well worth the wait for all that. and no i'm not giving out my post code:whistling::whistling::whistling:

There is a tree outside the Peterborough Evening Telegraph building, it is a council tree but large one so can't easily grab them

If the tree is overhanging into a public area then its 100% legal to pick them as long as you dont take them from the other side of the fence/border. If they have fallen onto the floor, they are yours by default. Remember, if you break any part of the overhanging tree off to throw it back over as that IS theft.

Great bargain all the same, now, if you want some blackberries.....................

You can legally pick fruit from plants that are 'growing wild'.
Fruit grown on trees remain the property of the tree owner, even after it has fallen off.
(see Mills v Brooker 1919)

We have 2 cherry trees within 30 yards of our house both on public ground and both provide plenty of goodness in the form of cherry pie filling. Yummy.

Post code not given for the sake of my ever expanding waistline.:-D

seems like there's a difference between taking a few brambles from a wild bush in your neighbourhood... and having a bunch of internet bargain hunters descent like a plague of locusts to pick a tree clean of fruit... hmm...
not sure about this one.

well if people aren't too greedy, I think it's a good thing wherever that is a public place..cuz at least we're not letting them go to waste..what's the point in leaving them to fall on the ground when we could enjoy?? i'm not gonna pick it clean just have some as a treat when i'm around..so everyone else can have some too!
#17
Sorry but I beat your deal because I have a cherry tree growing next door to my workplace and picked a huge bowl of it already! Even better still only we have access to the alleyway behind us in order to retrieve the cherry goodness! :D

Legalwise, if plants/foliage/green stuff grows over a fence and into your property you can cut/trim/pick fruit at your leisure! Now can anyone give me directions to a free strawberry and cream tree?

Heat given!
