Yeah I recall Audi doing something similar - I sold my trusty Citreon 2 years back and am hoping Daewoo will do something like this now, but that'd be the Dae(woo)

These deals are all wel & good, but main dealers will often find problems on MOT's to create them work that isn't really necessary.....had one car to amain dealer who failed it on exhaust corrosion, then took it to a local garage to be repaired, only to be told that there was nothing wrong & it was gas tight...would be OK for at least another 12 months !!

go to www.justmots.eu they wont rip you off as they dont do any repairs, they only do MOTs! any other company offering discounts or free MOTs will just find work that needs doing. if you book 60 days in advance with justmots it is only £19 and the service is great with free retest within 10 days i think i got last year. they also do a points system where your friends can use your email address as a referal and then when 10 friends have referred your email you get a free mot! the mots are still cheap even if you not booking 60 days in advance!

Or just go to your local council MOT station - they have to offer MOT's to the public

Great find. Booked mine in. Heat added.

Couldn't you give them a try

- if they pass it's free
- if they fail it and the repairs are less than £54 or there abouts, then you have still got a deal
- If they fail it and the repairs are more than £54 by a large amount, you don't believe them, take it to your normal person and pay for the MOT test again. You would have had to have paid for it normally anyway.

My MOT runs out 30/04/10 - website says can get it MOT'd 1 month before, but this offer runs out 31/03/10. Can we get it done on the 31st or would it have to be the 1st April?

Don't know if its just my Citroen Dealer then but:

Last year passed its 1st MOT with no problems at all.

Had brake noise which a fast fit dealer (Won't name them) suggested needed about £400 of disc and pad work - Citroen stripped the brakes down, cleaned them and charged under £50
Just need to find an honest dealer!

i've just bought a citroen, and the garage mot'd it and i have 28days 'warranty' from them.
i've booked the car into the citreon garage for another MOT on the logic if it fails i'm going back to the first place in the 28days with a list of what they need to fix...

there's nothing on the citreon website that says your mot has to be due....just that it has to be conducted between 4th January and 31st March 2010 so i don't see what's stopping people having one done early if it saves them some cash

Actually you can get an MOT every day if you like - 365 days a year! (You never heard a Arfur Daley type character say ' It'll be £200 as is, or for £250, I'll add an MOT on it'? - point being it can be done any day - everyday)

WRT the website info you are referring to - I have heard 2 things about this.
1 - This is more of a guideline - makes sense to do it early (might fail after all)
2 - If you MOT in the month before, you 'preserve' your MOT expiry date for 2011
i.e. if you don't go for the deal and decide to get MOT'd on 01/04/10 - it passes - then your new MOT will expire 30/04/11 - 13 months in effect.

I guess you you did take it in on 31/03/10 and it passes, show them the cert (V20?) and they might just preserve your date if you ask nicely. If it fails, well you'll go into April anyway no doubt, you get to pay nothing for the test and get a near 13 months MOT following re-test. Here's hoping you fail (a little bit)!

The rest of your points make absolute sense. Let us know how you get on!

I've got a J reg citroen that's been in a barn for several years, tempted, but the nearest garage is 20 miles away, I might not make it there. Insurance costs too. Thanks OP though.
