Free Digital TV for Virgin Phone Customers

disease Avatar

Saw this when I booted up & thought it was a good deal.

Not sure if it's for existing customers.

Can't get an image file I'm afraid

Works for existing customers

Call 0800 953 5353 and choose option 2 (existing customers)

There is a one-off charge of £25 for connection (goes on next bill)

Might be a stupid question, but can you have virgin media and sky digital in the same house? (Different TVs)

Our phone is now virgin because they took over whoever it was that we were with previously, and I wasnt aware of this
#2
Not sure, but would think so. If you look at all the blurb on their site it states that certain channels are cheaper than direct from Sky.

What I want to know is if this is better than using my freeview?:?

For your information, here is a link to the channels that are available with the Virgin TV package size M(free with phone line) click

Kelly,I do not see any problem with having Virgin as well as sky in your home, just have them install the box in a room where there is no sky :)

Disease, the M pakage is similar to freeview I suppose but i do not think you get channels sky2 or sky3(which i think are available on freeview) but what you do get extra is Virgin central,a channel that shows popular series that you can watch on demand, this is fairly new and from what I can gather they update the content every 15 days,so there should always be something different to watch.
Oh and of course you cannot get sky news on Virgin(though this may change if negotiations improve!!)

No you definately don't get those on Virgin... or Sky One :-(

And yes you can have both, especially if you use a scart connection. Just plug the Sky into a different scart socket (or buy a switch box if you haven't).

Mum is calling now to see about setting it up, may not be as good as freeview but we dont have freeview in parents bedroom (got sky downstairs and in my bedroom) so is better than just 5 channels.

If they say it isnt for existing customers we will just say that we will think about moving then because they treat new customers better than existing customers

Will let you know how we get on

Already with ntl/virgin for broadband and phone got package M installed last week with sky sports for £36.40 a month and no installation charge
#10
We only have phone line, dont want broadband with them, have sky digital so wont be buying any of the extra channels.

I am assuming that the £36.40 is for all 3?????

How did you get out of paying the £25?
#11
Yes £36.40 for 3 just negotiated
#12
Ummmm just seen an advert for unlimited broadband for £10 a month, phone line is £11 a month, and the tv is then free - so does that mean that you are paying £15.40 a month for sky sports?????
#13
Just phoned up as they reduced broadband/phone 3 months ago see if they could improve offer got talking asked if i had t.v and quoted stupid price, said i just wanted sky sports for o/h came back with package M & sports said i would have it if i didnt pay instalation, they said o.k
#14
So that means £15.40 a month just for sky sports????

We are getting package M for free.....

Kelly let me get this straight.

I have NTL/Virgin Broadband, TV and Phone.

So if i ring up and ask for Virgin Media they will charge a £25 installation charge but then i dont have to pay for the channels?

What kind of channels are they?

Thanks for any help
#16
I have PMed you explaining all

You said that you have virgin media tv, so you shouldnt even have to pay for the installation.....

Anyone else has any questions I will try and answer them (:giggle: Remember I only found out about this yesterday though!)

Thanks for the edit, but it might need to be changed again - I just got off the phone & was told that as I'd taken up the 2 for £20 deal (very recently) I wasn't able to have this. :-(

They messed up my install by not having an adapter to fit the ethernet cable to my pc (it's about 5 years old). Someone was supposed to turn up with it and surprise, suprise nada. After countless calls and a visit to the local techie shop I got a pci card which Virgin more than compensated me for so overall I was a happy bunny:)

If ive got a virgin mobile contract can i get the free tv channels installed for £25 installation fee and then pay nothing else?

I don't think so:-(

The tv is free with landline phones only,as far as I am aware the mobile part of Virgin is still a separate entity...different call centre etc, although you can get a good mobile deal if you are a VM customer.

This is definitely a no, no I'm afraid. It states "Free when taken with Virgin Phone" & by that they mean your regular landline. The minimum cost for this is £11 per month. Here's the link.

Thanks guys. Never mind then.

i ordered the phone line online then tick the box for the tv ( which is free anyway) then the installation only cost me £5! i did it a couple of weeks ago so not sure if it still works. Installation is goning to be next week!

Probably cheaper installation because you are a new customer - our phone was already with telewest who changed to virgin.

Good deal though :)

Thats rubbish - saves £1 a month as seperatly they are £10 for broadband and £11 for telephone. If you had them as £21 a month then you would have tv free - total swiz!
#28
Hi my sister i law has the phone line in and rang asking for the free tv channels but didn't want to pay £25 for installation so they told her to take the top package (£18 i think ) for one month then ring and drop it right down after the month and she could have it installed for free.
#29
Good tip lindsey :) do you not take out a 12 month contract with that though....
#30
Hi guys,

I've been with NTL since about 10 years ago and currently have the following:

landline
4mb broadband
analogue TV (costs about £40 per month)

Called up Virgin Media and was offered upgrade to:

XL package for digital TV
10mb broadband
landline (with free weekends/evenings calls)

all this for also around £40 a month.

Is this a good deal or not? Or could I've bargained for a bit more?
#31
Hi chuici,

I would say that is a good deal:thumbsup:

It works out at half the price if you costed each service separately,10mb BB is £35 alone!!!!
Also bear in mind that from May the 10mb BB will be increasing to 20mb,so all in all I think you've got a great price for the services.
#32
I would say that was good :)
#33
I got my Virgin bill today and there is a leaflet in it about the 2 for £20, 3 for £30 and 4 for £40. I guess everyone has had this leaflet but if anyone isnt already with Virgin then have a look online for the deal.
#34
BTW the sales guy told me that the mobile phone (£10 pm for 300 x-net mins & texts) was not a 12 month contract, which could be useful if you know you'll have a heavy spend 1 month. Might be particularly handy if you've got kids going on a UK school trip.;-)
#35
I don't where to put this question.

I want, only the phone line from NTL. But I can't find anywhere, whether I need to sign-up for 1 year contract for NTL phone line.

It is just that my house has already got NTL line installed and it is easier for me to get NTL line activated in my name rather than installing a new BT line.
#36
Just go to www.virginmedia.com. Go via quidco as there might be a discount. The phone is £11 pm & includes the Freeview - at least it did a couple of weeks back.

10mb broadband to be increased to 20mb from May? Where did you get this info from?

I forgotten to ask whether there's an installation fee when they come to do the upgrade for me, better give them a call soon to find out!!!

I doubt that there will be an installation fee because you are already a customer,I upgraded recently..no installation fee:thumbsup:

As for the upgraded speeds on 10mb BB,straight from the horses mouth, one of the CS girls told me,it had already been bandied about on various forums anyway so I had a good idea. They are running tests at the moment and when things are all stable and in place it will be rolled out across the country, should be sometime in May:thumbsup:

If you do ring them again, why not see if you can get a V+ box installed, they may want to charge extra but it's worth a try to get it for free, nothing ventured and all that.I got one installed a few weeks ago...fantastic piece of kit!!
#39
hey mucky ur v+ box work well./

What's a V+ box??
