In 1997, a band of developers that would come to be known as Rockstar North and Rockstar Games released the original Grand Theft Auto on an unsuspecting public. The groundbreaking non-linear urban crime game shook up a complacent game industry with its irreverent gameplay, humor and style- and a phenomenon was born.

We are now offering this classic progenitor of the Rockstar Games lineage as the first in a recurring series of Rockstar PC game downloads, absolutely free of charge. It's a chance for new fans to experience the roots of Rockstar as well as our way of saying thank you to our long-time supporters feeling that pang of nostalgia. Simply fill out the form below and check your email for a direct link to the file - we've even optimized the game for play on the latest and greatest computers. Now, don't say we never gave you anything.

The website is very amateurish and raised my suspicions before I downloaded.

The IP address 63.236.94.185 is registered to Take Two Interactive (who own Rockstar) so it might be OK.

I'd advise everyone to be cautious.

I loved GTA and GTA2 back in the day... great find!
#5
Nice find Thanks
#6
nice find, old but brilliant games, I always missed the squishing the non-specific religious joggers in the later versions of GTA... 'gouranga!'

Any ideas if they'll run under XP? If I remember rightly they were DOS based originally

These have been available free for a good few years now.

It's made to look 'classic'. It has also been around for quite a few years. All these games have been available to download since 2005. However still hot for those that don't know about it.

Good spot! no Mac games sadly, hope they release some of them, Oni was great on the Mac and it works with 10.5 on my MacBook Pro...

it has been that way for a very long time. besides, i do not think it looks amateurish. i think it was a deliberate attempt to have a distinguished look to fit in with the whole "classical" theme.

There was quite alot of talk about games, mostly first person shooters, giving people motion sickness a few months back when Bungie (Halo creators) re-released their classic 'Marathon' on Xbox live, in fact I'm sure I read they had to alter the 'bob' motion of the camera to try and help the situation.

fantastic find .. thanx :)

The beauty of these games is not the graphics, just the fluidity of the gameplay and the fun to be had playing - unlike most games that come out these days which too often focus on big presentation, set pieces and graphics but with 4-6 hours gameplay.
#20
has anyone tried running these games on eeepc?
