There are free ebooks on Amazon - but Google have loads more.

More than 500,000 out of copyright books are available for free download to read either on your PC or on your Kindle, Sony or any other reader.

These free ebooks are available as part of the Google Book Search service, and are books that are out of copyright or in the public domain that have been digitally scanned by Google. They are available free of charge on the Google Book Search website.

How to Find Free Ebooks on Google Book Search

There are two types of free ebook available on Google Book Search. The first is where the book is no longer in copyright - 70 years from the end of the calendar year in which the author died. The second is where the author and publisher have decided to allow the whole book to be available for free download.

To find free ebooks on Google Book Search:

Go to: http://books.google.co.uk/advanced_book_search

1. Click the Advanced Book Search option
2. Decide on your search terms: eg author, title or key word
3. In the search option, click the Full View button
4. Complete the rest of the search options as required

This will produce a list of all books where the entire content is free to download.

An alternative is to register at http://www.jungle-search.com/UK/kindle.php and you'll receive an email (max 2 per day) each time new free titles become available.

That's an excellent way of getting the free books that Amazon provide. The links above, though, will give you access to the far greater range available on Google Books.

No problem - there are thousands of books hidden away in Google Books that Amazon don't have, but unless you know how to search for the free ones you'll be unlikely to find them. (_;)
