i am amazed

***Coming soon: Zero Insertion Fees on qualifying auction-style listings on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie, and Final Value Fee rate changes ***

26 February, 2009 | 09:00AM GMT

From 12th March 2009, there's no Insertion Fee if youre a private seller and you list your item in the auction-style format with a starting price of up to 99p (eBay.co.uk) or 1.49 (eBay.ie). Final Value Fee rates are also changing.

Fees for business-registered sellers using the auction-style format will be unchanged.

Pay only when you sell

In 2008 we made it free to include a picture for your listing. Were continuing our commitment to moving the cost of selling on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie away from front end fees so that the majority of fees are paid only when you successfully sell an item.

Learn more about the new zero Insertion Fee on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie.

Regards,

The eBay Team

Yes, and you can be your bottom dollar that if they are scrapping insertion fees for 99p auction style listings, that they will be making it up elsewhere......and that would be in the final value fee that everybody pays when they sell their item regardless of what their insertion fee was.

Well done eBay, thanks for putting us over the barrel yet again and wapping down our trousers to stiff us good and proper over and over.....

#13
We will probably end up paying more!

i would think that for most ebayers now it isnt really a viable profit selling site anymore, ebay charge so much that coupled with paypal only the hardcore big sellers i would think make a decent profit,
#15
they earn more money on paypal

problem is there aren't any real alternatives to ebay...

Selling doesn't have to be for profit. Maybe this is good.

Or maybe it's just the lack of capitalism in me but now it could be used like a trading site rather than greed upon avaric upon greed.

Personally I have stopped using ebay entirely. It is a huge rip-off and generally you can find the stuff you need elsewhere for a similar price. Boycott ebay, it is the way forward.
#19
For those who don't use ebay, can I ask where you sell your stuff now (assuming you do)? I would love to stop using ebay but don't know where else to go. I know I can sell on here and that's ok for some stuff but I sell a lot of clothes and I don't think this site is the best place to sell them.

I got caught out the other week when I put a DVD on ebay and you are no longer allowed to charge postage in that category. Now fair enough postage costs for DVDs aren't that expensive but it cost me £1.50 to post plus the cost of the packaging and that had to come out of my selling price along with the paypal fees. Any viable alternative will be greatly welcomed!!!

try Ebid, it seems to be growing alot, no doubt most ebayers that have left are using it now, who knows in time it may rival ebay, early days but even ebay started out like ebid at one point now look at it

How about Gumtree ??

gumtree is owned by ebay! lol!

ebay is run by idiots, it really is useless nowadays.

They don't seem to realise that their sellers need to make a profit otherwise they won't bother selling items on ebay. To sell on ebay you need to be selling at least 10-20% of RRP, as no one buys there otherwise. So if they charge 10% final value fee, 10% on paypal, and postage takes up another 10%. That roughly means sellers need to buy stuff at 50-60% off retail value, maybe more.

There is no profit left on ebay anymore, people were selling stuff for a few pounds of profit before, but now with paypal fee's, ebay fee's, and postage fee's that little has dried up. Only stolen items, garage sale second hand items, and pound shop items are sold on ebay nowasays.

Everythign new is sold from hong kong or india these days. This is why monopolies are evil, they always detroy a good thing.
