To celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary, you can get free entry in 2017 to all National Parks, National Marine Conservation Areas and National Historic Sites operated by Parks Canada.

A Discovery Pass would normally cost £41 (CA$67.70) for an adult and £82 ($136.40) for a family. It provides access to some of the country's most famous sites, such as Banff National Park (Canada's first national park), and the Laurentian Mountains, described by National Geographic as "Montreal's four-season playground".

What's included
A Discovery Pass for a group of up to seven people arriving together in the same vehicle at a National Park, a National Marine Conservation Area or National Historic Site operated by Parks Canada. You can have the pass shipped to your address for free, or pick one up at a park entrance.

When
Passes are valid for use until 31 December, 2017, and are available until sold out.

Yes, they are also far bigger and well managed compared to anything in the UK.

Flaming Hot, visit Bow Lake, much nicer than Lake Louise, that place is spoilt with tourism, we spotted loads of bears when there. I went in July and here is a pic i took http://digital-darkroom.weebly.com/uploads/5/3/9/4/5394865/9961745_orig.jpg

I cant recommend Banff National Park enough - every direction you look is amazing scenery. Lived there for 3 years and met my wife there....if you are ever on the fence, dont hesitate!

If you are planning a trip in Summer, try and be there for the July 1st long weekend. Canada day is great on a regular year...the 150th anniversary should be amazing!

I want to visit Canada more than anything in my life. Every year I say I'm gonna save up and go visit there, I think this year might be the year I finally do it! Thanks for posting this, I've snapped one up for myself and was amazed it's actually getting sent to my UK address. Hopefully I actually get to use it!

how big and managed do you need? Try the Yorkshire Dales, beautiful countryside that you could take many years exploring and still find new things, doesn't cost a penny. Why on earth would you have to pay to go to a national park ?

They are amazingly well maintained; all of the roads have impeccable surfaces (amazing given the range of weather conditions), well kept and informative signage, regular free car parking, numerous well sign posted footpaths and extremely clean and well maintained toilets. Furthermore, you can barely move for the amount of wildlife friendly bins they have to help contend with the bears etc, and they also need to concern themselves with forest fire/land slide/avalanche defences as well. I was more than happy to pay, especially in comparison to the pothole-fest that you'd get in the UK; I'd happily pay again, for free it is a bargain!

Trust me, the Yorkshire Dales might as well be your local park in comparison.

there are "national" parks you have to pay for in the uk... otherwise why would there be a national trust pass?
