I only recently found out about this, see below:

This is a national card that can be used to verify that the holder is entitled to one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema.
To apply for the card, you will need to meet one or more of the following criteria:

a) Be in receipt of the disability living allowance or attendance allowance.

b) Be a registered blind person.

The card is valid for 1 years from the date of issue.
A processing fee of £5.50 is chargeable per card. This is to be sent along with the completed application.

this is an excellent scheme but it seems to have gone up. I don't have a carer but go with a friend and we split the ticket price

My present card is a 4 or 5 year one and doesn't expire til 2010:thumbsup:

I have this and never had a problem with it, I expected to have to explain what it was or something but everyone just says ok and changes the price.

As the card will have the disabled persons photograph on it they (your g/f) will need to be present if you want the free ticket.

You need to go with the disabled person. I have had mine for a few years now and although I don't use it as much these days it is a great deal.

The card holder needs to be there is works on the fact that the card holder would not be able to go alone thats why the carer gets in free not that i would go alone even if i could lol

My mum has one of these cards and they are pretty good... I try to treat her every fortnight to movie and popcorn - Costs £6.50 for the disabled + free carer ticket + £4.50 for XL popcorn. 'Tis a good deal.

Each card is issued to the disabled person in question, but the carer who gets in for free can be anyone. The card can ONLY be used by the person it's issued to though. When you go to the cinema they bring out a book and note down your name, address and phone number - just to verify your entitled to it, in case the cards a fake etc...

I've had mine for over 4 years - I worked out that I saved nearly £400 in 1 year (I go to the cinema at least once a week)

:? I have used it in a few cinemas and have never had them take any details from me, they just look at the card and say ok and then press a few buttons on the computer.
