http://www.fon.com
Hi from FON,

We know you tried to order your FREE La Fonera router in celebration of our 1st birthday. There was enormous demand from the United States and the ordering process may have been difficult. We apologize if this was the case for you. We have now fixed any problems and we would like you to try again. Please click the link below to get your FREE La Fonera router. After you click through to the FON store, there is a log in page where you can enter your FON username and password.

We look forward to welcoming you to the WORLD'S LARGEST WIFI COMMUNITY!

http://www.fon.com/1yearold

I've got one of these boxed, unused and brand new, but don't need it (as I'm on a limited download broadband deal), so FON is happy for me to freely give this unit to somebody else interested in joining the FON network. Email me at [email protected]

#9
Why do people want this? Most internet providers give a router free with installation anyway
#10
There are a few people on another forum I'm on that have got theirs too, and it only took about a week with most of them it seems.
#11
received mine today from barcelona, spain

Because you can give some bandwidth away to other 'members' and take some when you are away from home, without paying twice for it, just check out their website and all will become clear.

Yo please reply, is this a scam ? cos im just 15, i dont want no bill coming 2 my house, my parents will hit the roof, dont worry tho, i had there permission 2 sign up n get a router since i told them its free, soo whats gonna happen? is it a scam ?

It does not appear to be a scam but you should share some bandwidth with others who might want it, read the website and it will be explained more. You don't have to keep it, just pass it on to someone else you will use it according to the terms & conditions.

Ok, will do, thanks :) is there any risk with security when using this???
#16
Does anyone know how to get it working through ICS?
#17
Does it work with ntl/virgin

OMG how small :w00t: mine arrived today.

Kelly, there is a WEP on the underside, that is your password, only with that can you access the router so nobody should be able to get into it without knowing your code (and even then your own network is protected from them anyway). I have not had time to set it up yet but looks as if I might have to ditch the Belkin unit (pain in the ar$e that has been) and go for this, g0d how tiny, fits in your hand no probs.

Looks a good bit of kit and if it works in reverse I will be well happy.

Now all we need is for people working at places like airport offices and seaport offices to install it there and we have free access before we holiday. Any takers???
#20
Thanks Crazy1 - I have a belkin connecting my laptop to the router, and dont have a problem with it :) although their customer service isnt great

I might swap it with my belkin one, see which one runs faster lol

Heat and rep left..

Hi got mine yesterday - unfortunatley I am unable to use it as my modem connects via usb not ethernet - does anyone know if there is a way around this?
banned#23
Lol, they must lose such a lot of money over this :o

They give away 2500 free wireless routers which should cost like £30 each i guess, and they come tnt delivery in a big truck which must cost a load!

I have had mine since last Friday, it has been working fine with my VirginMedia 10Mb. I got another one sent to work too 'cos we all have wireless laptops.

On another forum that I'm on, everyone seems to be flashing them with a new firmware, and someone is now using it with their Xbox.

I think that the security is OK, your own connection is secure and the open connection is OK too, as you need to be a FON member and logged into Fon site to use it, so even if someone was to use it for dodgy things gets logged with their username in your user area.

The offer has now finished, but you can invite someone to join FON and they can get a free router.

The router may only be tiny and have 1 ethernet port, but I personally think it's pretty nifty and one of the best freebies that I've had (Apart from the R&R Xbox360)

received :) cheers :)

Totally agree, got mine up and running and my housemates are happy now as we don't have to keep sharing the one wire from the modem anymore, we can all connect at the same time :)

This other forum you're on, has anyone managed to get it working with a Nintendo DS?
#28
can anyone invite me please as i need a router pm me cheers!
#29
I am assuming the order is over BUT the invite a friend offer is still going?

If so I'd love to be able to share my internet connection as I'm moving to an ISP with no download limits

So if anyone has a spare invite code I'd be most grateful,

Many Thanks in advance ..
#30
I'd also be extremely grateful if the invite a friend offer is still active and if anyone has an invite code?
Thanks guys :)
#31

Is anyone else having speed issues with the FON? Ive done various speedtests and I'm getting about 4-6meg through the FON and 16-18meg hard wired into laptop.

Mind you I am not convinced that the wireless in my laptop is that great.
#37
well wireless is also going to be slower then a wired connections, is your laptop wireless g?

Be careful as if someone is downloading illegal material(eg. child porn) on your internet connection you will be liable unless you can prove conclusively that it wasn't you.

Yeah, my network is secure I'm just trying to work out what is slowing my wireless down, laptop or FON
