MSDNAA

The Microsoft Develeper Network Academic Alliance is an annual membership program for University departments in the area of

Computer Science,
Engineering,
and Information Systems,

As a member, the department's faculty and students may check-out or download Microsoft operating system and developer tools software to install on their personal computers.

Therefore you can get all this software for free as a student. I have just installed windows 7 and it's amazing!!!

I think each uni has a different link to the MSDNAA website. Best to contact your administrator or google "MSDNAA" followed by your university name.

The link shown is for the University of Herts.

1) Once you have the link for your Uni.
2) Log in with your university log in and username authorised by your administrator.
3) Select your software.
4) The product licence code will be provided on screen.
4) Download the software.
5) Install and enjoy.

Tell me how you get on and don't hesistate to contact me for further info.

This is my first few posts so comment freely, all feedback is welcomed.

Thanks ;)

Hi,

We have the Microsoft Alliance here. However, you cant just enter any user name, the admins(that would be me) have to allow the user access. Maybe they've set it up differently. Be suprised if anyone can access this.

The terms/rules of use are actually if its used in your studies such as software development (ie. computing students, engineering). Business students at our uni dont get access (not my decision :-D ). Fantastic way of getting free software if you can get access.

Couple of things. Windows can only be authorised once from MSAA and not applications cant be used in upgrades.

It currently appears to be the release candidate that is available since the finished product isn't out yet. What will happen when it does get released I don't know....

Contact the LRC 01707 284800 and ask LIS (Learning and Information Services) if you have access to this site. If not contact you administrator.

I logged in with my username and password and it works like a dream. Mayby coz your reading business you don't have these luxuries.

Good luck. ;)

When it gets released they should provide a complete licenced copy for download on the MSDNAA website. I'm using RC for CAD applications and it's very quick utilising the Quad core and 2GB graphics GPU. No problems so far!!

If someone downloads the file for Windows 7, ultimate, can you maybe mail me it?

All that they are offering at the moment is the release candidate, which is exactly the same as the one you can get for free from the MS website. After that it is likely that they will issue codes on an individual basis to the students that apply.

Also, reading through the FAQ it says that each product code can only be used once, so if you have need to reinstall Windows 7 i.e. if you buy a new PC or your HD fails, you will not be allowed to reuse the same code again, apparently you have to request a new one. If you're no longer a student when that happens then I guess you'd have to pay for a new product code from MS.

Worth a try! All I need to do now is find a friend that still studies the subjects and break their computer so they have no use!!!

Seeing as they're offering the full version of XP and Vista, I presume they'll be offering the Windows 7 OS when it's released in October
