Portable TV's do not require a tv licence for students if their parents have a TV licence at their main address. However mobile devices do not count, they also do not count if you 'install' a portable TV (aka plugging it in to the mains, only valid when you are using it on it's own power source).

They are trying to crack down on it :-/

Tv Catch up does not work with OS 3 on Iphone 4

No he is quite correct that ipod, ipad dont support flash so he is not dumb at all. Thats why there is the ipod/ipad (non-flash) version.

I think they must mean iOS4.3, as this version is not currently supported by TV Catchup :-(

I can quiet categorically assure you that he isn't dumb because the ipod/ipad etc do NOT support flash.

Title/OP is misleading as all the iDevices famously don't support flash, hence the reason for the html5 subdomain specifically for iphones/ipads/etc.

Correct it uses your IP address identify your location. You can work round it by using a proxy server application on your PC.

"iOS 4.3 is currently incompatible with TV Catchup"

That's my iPod 4 out then.

This has been posted numerous times before, yes. But doesn't hurt to re-post as new members get to know about it.

It's worth noting that this doesn't necessarily work on all devices with Flash player. For instance, it doesn't work on my Joggler, which has had Flash player installed and loads many URL-based Flash files perfectly.

Title/OP is misleading as all the iDevices famously don't support flash, hence the reason for the html5 subdomain specifically for iphones/ipads/etc.

He has listed the devices that are compatible in the title:
iDevices
Laptops
PS3s
Anything with Flash Player

It's not misleading.

It is misleading, it implies that its for any device that supports flash, such as an ipad or iphone (which famously do not support flash).

Better title?
iPod/iPad/iPhone 3G,3GS,4 Laptop, PS3, OR Any device supporting Flash Player @ TV Catchup

Sorry to say but Students do need their own licences. Every room in the halls of residence has to have it's own too.

From the site:

You watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV
This is the case whatever device you use – whether a laptop, PC, mobile phone, games console, digital box, VHS/DVD recorder or anything else. It also includes programmes you watch online at the same time as they’re being shown on TV, for example live sport. (However, if your mobile device isn’t plugged in, you’ll still be covered by your parents’ licence.)

1. A comma indicates that it is part of a list. Look at the title. Imagine each comma is a start of a new bullet point.
2. Who cares if iDevices don't have Flash? It is not relevant to this thread.
3. My iPhone 3GS has Flash. Jailbroken iDevices can support Flash.
