For the longest time it was taboo to even talk about VoIP on the iPhone, because Apple simply would not permit it. As luck would have it, there is now a legitimate and free way for you to conduct such activities if you deem necessary, and it can all be done with an app called fring.

fring isnt new to the mobile VoIP industry. In fact, its been around longer than the iPhone itself. And now, iPhone users can exploit its features fully, with the expense of just a few minutes of downloading their app from the iPhone App Store.also give you access to msn messenger, twitter, google, yahoo, SIP Clients and AIM

Okay, so without wishing to be rude, what the heck is this doing in deals? It's not a new piece of software, it's not a deal (i.e. it's always been free) and there seems to be no reason whatsoever for posting it here. Maybe under freebies, but deals? No.

Yeah each to their own, but skype have been doing it longer in total, and alot of those who have tested Skype are saying it knocks spots off Fring.

Personally I haven't tried the iPhone version of Skype... but I have tried Fring and I always felt it was Fugly and looked unfinished.

the big thing is that skype app will only let you use skype accounts. fring lets me use messenger, skype and any other sip client i want.

at the mo skype only works over wifi on the 3g iphone that is untill the 3 fw has been released then it should work over 3g as well

Working with Beta OS 3.0 over 3G.

TBH I am more excited about the Skype being useable on the iPod Touch

Does the job! no nasty adds like on Palringo for the Itouch/phone.

I'll add some heat to that!

moved to Freebies:)

Fring is annoying because you can't have a conversation and use the phone/apps simultaneously. It keeps logging you out...all a big pain in the ****, though same is the case for skype...
