Recently released, this is a brilliant point+click adventure game. Funny, great story and atmosphere, cool music and sound effects.

The sequel called "The Journey Down: Into the Mist" will be released next summer.

They're part of the Big Blue Cup/Adventure Game Studio (AGS) community, which is basically a place dedicated to the creation of point-and-click games. The AGS itself a piece of software that allows you create and play your own, although a little scripting knowledge will come in handy.

There are plenty of other game available for download on their site, all user created, however the majority aren't of the quality of this one. There are a few gems though.

There's also a forum with things such as games in progress, games completed, help with the software and general chat.

Thanks for the info, I will try some of them, but many of the "gems" on that site you still have to pay for, they are mostly demos. This is a quality one and it's free!

None of the games I have ever played from AGS have been anything other than free. Sure, some of them are quite short, but that's because it's either one or just a few people working together in their free time. Try looking through the categories and you should be able to find a few decent length games, and even a lot of the medium or short ones can be quite challenging, e.g. 5 Days a Stranger, 6 Days a Sacrifice and 7 Days a Skeptic.

Here's just a few examples of games which are only demos on that website...

I'm not saying there aren't demos or commercial games on the website, but I have played quite a number of quality AGS games and none of them have cost me a penny. There are plenty that are free and well worth playing. I am not disputing the fact that demos/commercial games exist on there or that the free ones surpass the quality of The Journey Down, however if you're a fan of these type of games then I recommend checking out the free, AGS award-winning games at least.
