Don't like the man but his books have excellent reviews so may give this a try seeing as it is free.

He seems to believe in them and, fairly or unfairly, the are like a window on his soul. Their absurdities are his absurdities, their triumphs his. It is easy to poke fun at them, just as it is easy to poke fun at him, but look at the figures. Look at the pleasure the novels have given.'
