In case anyone who just bought their first xbox gets excited.

Collect the serial numbers for your original Xbox One console, Xbox One S console and Kinect sensor. If you plan to trade in your original Xbox One console, it's crucial you collect the original console's serial number beforehand.
Contact Xbox Support and request your free adapter. You'll be asked to hand over your three serial numbers, so make sure these are nearby.

How long from 'ordering' until receiving?

Excellent - thanks for posting op. Despite old threads regarding this I wasn't aware. Got onto chat and had a very friendly advisor - took about 5 minutes. Well worth doing. Thanks again

They need the serial numbers from your xb1 s console, xb1 console and xb1 kinect to be eligible.

Around 14 days after receiving confirmation email of despatch.

There's no adapter for that. The Xbox 360 Kinect is not compatible with Xbox One or One S.

I didn't need all 3 serial numbers, they only asked me the serial number of the Xbox one s. I did it via the support web chat section on the Microsoft site

Could you post or pm a link? I would like to get an adapter but being a bit cheeky as I don't have the Kinect but might well pick one up one day when they are cheap enough to see what all the fuss is/was about so obviously would want to be able to plug it in!

To avoid any waiting when contacting customers on web chat do the following.
Register your serial numbers for xbox, xbox one s and Kinect sensor. Have your name address, email and xbox Id ready to paste into the chat. They appreciate having all the right answer loaded and it will take about 2 min.

It took 2 mins for me, they didn't even ask for the Kinect serial or the serial of my old Xbox one & I didn't register my serial numbers either or ask for my Xbox id. Just Xbox one s serial number, name, address and email. Got a confirmation email saying it has been dispatched

my kinect is on an xbox 360. because it wasnt on an xbox one they wouldnt supply the adapter for my new xbox one s. I know the systems are different but i could have upgraded once i got the adapter. Kids will have to make do with playing their games on the 360

just received the adapter yesterday, wow what a bundle.

Three cables and two block adapters, one needing to be plugged in to the mains. It is gonna have to wait for me as I have all the cables routed and to add this giant to the bundle will take up more space than is saved by having the one s power block internally.

Good stuff. I just had mine arrive in the post. Took 4 days. I did not realise that it comes with a external power adapter.

The Xbox 360 and Xbox one Kinect are different - an adaptor wouldn't have worked if you only have the 360 Kinect

the boy has the original old chunky xbox. was going to buy a kinect for xmas? will i still be able to?

i have no clue with consoles btw
#23
A shame I never had the original xbox one.
#24
I got one today, she needed all serial numbers from 3 devices, took a while too.
#25
If you have registered your consoles on the MS website then you won't need to give the serials as they pull data from there.

I had them registered but she never did that. Just as well I was playing forza and didn't realized how long it took X)

did my request today. didnt have to provide SN for old xbox one as it was showing on my device list on my account (dont remember ever registering it, and i have had two). Had to provide SN for kinect sensor and new xbox one slim, and some personal info. Just got the email confirming its being processed and should be with me in 20 days.

Glad this is working for everyone X)

Something that hasn't been mentioned is that this same connection kit also allows you to use the Kinect hooked up to a Windows 10 PC. So, useful if you have any curiosity to develop software that could use the sensors. Notice that the recent Microsoft 3D Builder app for Windows 10 can use the Kinect to perform 3D scans of objects for 3D printing. You can even send designs off to be made by mailorder 3D printing services from inside the app apparently. Pretty neat.
