"Midnight EST" - So I think thats 5.00am here :-(

I haven't seen this on the news but would it work in the UK? The licencing is most certainly separate and we don't even have full iTunes access yet
#9
Looks good, but download link is broken on their website for me!
#10
was all over the news, they dont have actual written contracts with alot of record companies and as such have to take off the music for those companies. so the way its looking, there wont be many songs on there by the time is out of beta.

I tried this this morning, it took a while (probably due to server loads) but I managed to download it and register, although I haven't tried it as I'm at work and P2P is blocked. It does have an option for UK residents but it doesn't let you enter a UK postcode, it only allows 5-part-or-more digits so I just made one up and hope it isn't so regionalised.

They look *very* dodgy. Reuters is reporting that none of the big 4 music labels have any sort of deal with Qtrax, despite Qtrax claiming they do...

Agree, don't get your hopes up. Think about it, the major record labels are trying all they can to STOP the spreading of music files. Why would they go and make it easier to do so? They don't believe in free music, they want us all to pay all we can.

It's surprising this announcement is making headlines, when the record labels themselves are denying it!

I had a look at it last night and it actually does seem a bit iffy. I searched a few albums and noticed that the track listings are wrong, sometime just in the wrong order but a lot of times there are tracks which don't even belong to particular albums and to me this is an indication that it definitely isn't official. I didn't bother trying to download anything, I'll wait to hear more about it.

Just downloaded the software and registered alright. However when you click Download Track, a pop up box says "Downloads coming soon"! What a surprise! Good idea poorly executed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qtrax

t's basically a P2P program, like Azureus, Bit Torrent etc.

Seems like you can only use it like a music transfer program, to send your files from your computer to your MP3 player!

Saw the managing director being interviewed on the Ch4 news last night. Dodgy as hell.

However their big announcement sure did get them a lot of users signing on...

Rubbish.

try this one:

we7

it's free and legal, i havn't tried it yet though.
#21
It's ok, the site appears to be broken now anyway :)
#22
Working now, but all the tracks I search for take you straight to US Amazon site to buy for $0.99 each!

Has anyone actually managed to download a track yet ?
#23
You're clicking the wrong button then, there is a download link and an Amazon link, the download link is just to the left of the Amazon one but it doesn't work anyway.
#24
They haven't signed any contract with music labels yet. Don't bother signing up guys.

Just so you all know, SOME songs are now available to download on Qtrax. All from bands signed up to TVT Records. Try downloading New Year's Day, Sevendust and Ying Yang Twins. They all seem to work.
