    Agree, AVG misses a lot of the nasty stuff. I run MSE in conjunction with Malwarebytes.

    also to add using MSE doesnt eat up lot of CPU like other antivirus softwares thus speeding PC performance as well

    I had this trouble too, turned out I had a bug that reinstalled each time it was removed, also it messed with windows defender, not used it since.

    seriously, you are risking it with AVG now. Its really bad as the number of people reporting viruses using this in MISC is a daily occurrence

    The main problem with most comments/recommendations from ordinary users … The main problem with most comments/recommendations from ordinary users of AV software (and I include myself in that) is that we all think the one we happen to use (and I use Avira Free) is the best.You think everything's fine, and it picks up the odd problem maybe, but what you'll never know about are the things it's failing to pick up. You've no means of knowing what your software's missing.For what it's worth, Which? recently tested and rated the main free offerings as follows:Microsoft Security Essential 2012 84%AVG Antivirus Free 2012 75%Avira Free 65%Avast! Free Antivirus 6 50%


    No disprespect but I wouldnt trust which magazine to know what they are doing when it comes to comprehensive testing of software.

    MSE is useless against rootkits and a simple script exploit renders it useless (see above) almost permanently. It's worth every penny they charge for it.

    MSE just doesnt cut it neither do any of the other free av's i tested this by installing 1 at a time leaving it a month while downloading torrents and selecting random sites of the un-official wiki on the deep web, then ran a full scan with a free av once that had finished plugged in my pen drive with titanium av on and ran another scan. Every month i tested this it found things that the free av's looked over, so if you use the web for more than just surfing be safe buy an av!

    Forgot malwarebytes trial was good and it was unlimited but last time i went to install it on pc the trail only lasted a month, you could always d/l a keygen and get the full thing for free (a keygen usualy triggers any av with a false positive) but to be safe run it in sand boxie

    Ive used AVG, norton, mcafee and other antiviruses, but to be honest this is the best 1 and I have been using this for well over a year and its light on the memory and does a great job. Never had any issues with installing it like others have here. Works a charm and ill stick with it, im sick of other av's that are so heavy on memory and you need to keep renewing the serial numbers or deal with pop ad screens. This is just impressive for a MS release.

    Used AVG for years then paid for NOD32. I didn't like paying so started using MSE. Won't be looking anywhere else any time soon. Recommended download.

    crap dont waste your time but something solid like ESET i seen so many pc`s lately come through the door with this on and didnt stop the spyware or viruses floating around...

    Could be, but looking at the way they test, it does look pretty comprehensive - certainly better than the very subjective views of individual posters (and again I include myself in that).

    The best anti avirus i have found is Avast far superior to avg.
    But use kaspersky now as a paid AV.

    Is it possible to install this one when I already have Norton Anti-Virus software? I heard somewhere that each software will recognise the other as a potential threat and try to delete it, is that right?

    Actually from that article the conclusion is it is slow.
    Avast is the best, and usually it is found to be the fastest.

    For the freebie antivirus packages I prefer Avira (http://www.free-av.com) which detects more viruses than AVG and is not a resource hog. I believe the free Microsoft one is pretty good though.
